i ran my old F2 38 T/S Gun w/ +700HP mated to IMCO Extreme Advantage SC's and never had a hint of a problem.....then again, the boat only weighed approximately 8,200lbs. taking off, exiting and reentry are the hardest on the drives.....

Simple answer. 700+hp and Bravos in a 38' boat = broken drives. Even if you have been lucky and only had minor drive problems (ie. a broken clutch cone or something) - you will always be thinking about your drives when you are pushing it. I know a few guys who are scared to run hard simply because they are worried about breaking drives. I'd rather have less power and more drives all day long than more power and less drives. I know someone with 575s and #6s. Downside might be a little loss of power since it takes more HP to turn the bigger drives but darn it - you can run balls to the walls in all types of water all day long and never worry about your drives letting go! That's why Gary and I love our "stock" power and XR drives. We ran the crap out of our packages during our poker run - flat out all the way to Catalina and back. Granted - the way Gary (Cigarette 1) drives he's lucky he didn't blow his drives. Can't throttle for his life! Ha ha ha ... ;)

I had 600sc with bravos and broke drives-to much power
I have 750hp's with 3a's and they do great-never any problems

Re: 750's with bravo's

3a's at the minimum. anything less is a breakdown waiting to happen

Thanks for that info guys. The dealer said the new mercs should be here as early as the Lauderdale show. I think I'll wait till there available.

Pulse... Have had mine for 2 years. Drive maintainence = rinse with fresh water after the boat comes out. I do not throttle, ever, even in 6 footers at 60.

Glad to hear you are happy with the Pulse drive system. I had followed the conversion of Zero Cavity an '88 Top Gun and later heard that is was converted back to Speedmaster III drives.

Did they not work on the Top Gun?

Why did they put speedmasters back on the boat?
