Help please?

Replacing fuel sending unit and came across a slight problem. After removing the 6 or screws and went to remove it, onlly to find out the unit will not fit thru the opening. There were two add. screws on the unit itself which I removed and now have half removed, The other half will not fit rhru the opening in the tank. Whats up with that? Anyone with any answers to this would be helpful. THANKS!

What opening?
I replaced mine thru the big center acess panel cut in the deck in front of the motors. Took the screws out of the sender disconnected the wires and it popped right out. Do you have a pic?

Re: Help please?

There are gaskets between the senders and tank. Maybe somebody glued them down. Take a thin putty knife and force it between them. Then pry it up. Yours are the ones with the black round top and about 6 small screws holding it down?

Gaskets free, sender loose and free just won't pull out of tank, seems sender is bigger at lower half of sender.

I'm stumped.
The only other part attached to that hockey puck looking thing is a straight alum rod about a 1/4" around attached to the bottom of it that goes into the fuel tank. The hockey puck is about 1/2" thick and thats it.

Steve,

I removed mine this summer and I have the original senders like you...unless something has changed, they should just slide right our and then you need to turn them ona 90 degree angle when you get to the float...

how high have you been able to get them up?

I've got the sender to the point you can remove two screws and the sender is in to peices. the remaining part seens to have a round plate which i can't get past the opening in the top of the tank. Past that I can see the float arm so I can't get to the point of turning it the 90 degree angle to get it out. THANKS !
