Who would let this happen!?
http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/2/1/76017921.htm
First off....WHY!? It looks like it used to be a sweet boat. Second, how much to put back together?? Third, who bought it? Sold in 24hrs of posting...33k seems like a good price. |
Re: Who would let this happen!?
Thanks to bouyhunter for posting this link,
I turned a good friend, and also my engine builder onto this 'ol Top Gun and we have some cool ideas of how to re-rig an old notch-transom, full cabin Top Gun. My thoughts are a pair of Konrad HP540's, build a couple of 540" low decks with R-Tech Supercooled VORTECH centrifugal blowers. From previous experience with the R-Tech system, I'm quite confident we can produce 1000 hp and deliver it in an extremely mild configuration. This should be a fun winter :D |
Re: Who would let this happen!?
Keep me up dated on the progress. My brother was working on a deal on that gun but lost it to your buddy. I'm anxious to see what could have been. For my brother. He had the same plan for her with the konrads. Good luck

Re: Who would let this happen!?
Hey Biggus, have you seen the boat? Is it in OK condition or is it pretty beat up?

Re: Who would let this happen!?
I think he was heading to pick it up Tank. He'll let us know, I have not known Biggus to keep things hush for too long... :D:D:D

Re: Who would let this happen!?
WOW look's like a grate project boat
|
Re: Who would let this happen!?
I pulled off the exit for fuel about 6 weeks ago and saw it sitting in the field behind the boat dealer and it made me sick. I wrote the number down and was going to give them a call but didn't. I about got carried off be mosquito's so I couldn't check it out real good but for that price it was a steel. I think the dealer just became a Cigarette dealer for the Chicago area.

Re: Who would let this happen!?
Hey guys, we just arrived in Hudson WI. We are attending the Konrad training school this week and thanks to Crazyhorse we will be picking up the project Top Gun thursday morning.
I'll post pics when we return. Kurt |
Re: Who would let this happen!?
This boat sold quick, and I hope it works out. i called GSC and they said it had water damaged cabin, so i decided to let it slide.
It's missing it's drives, so you have to put ALOT more than $ 65 k into this thing. Oh, no trailer too. I decided an older running Top Gun is a better buy. Wannabe |
Re: Who would let this happen!?
The Konrad's are Drives wannabe.
Knowing Biggus they will elbow grease the mechanical fixes and the other stuff themselves and make it a good deal. I don't want to get into semantics, at least once this "project" is done you have a Top Gun. There is a lot of people doing projects that don't end up with that for the same or more money. |

I agree that with lots of elbow grease (sweat equity) they will end up with a TGun. I though about it but passed, and will be glad to hear about the progress Biggus and friends accomplish on this boat. I don't have that kind of time, wish i did though. Wannabe |
Re: Who would let this happen!?
Good luck with a cool boat.

Re: Who would let this happen!?
How much do those Konrads run anyway?

Re: Who would let this happen!?
Hello everyone, I'm currently sitting in the office of Grand Sport in IL. Thanks to Crazyhorse for delivering the trailer down here. We are all loaded up and ready to hit the road.
The boat looks great for the $$. It is pretty much completely original. We plan to rebuild the motors with a pair of 671's and new Konrad 540's on the back. Tim and I just completed the Konrad Marine training center and Dorr's Marine Engines is now factory certified to rebuild Konrad drives. As far as Konrad pricing is concerned, the 540 drive, set up as a direct bolt-on for aTRS transom assy. is @9k. The drive and complete transom assembly is @11k I'll post pics when we return. Kurt |
Re: Who would let this happen!?
Right on Kurt....Hurry up and post some pics. This could be a nice little step by step photo thread of the progress. By the way, did you sell your gun?

Re: Who would let this happen!?
Just pulled back into town. We've been hammering Tim's new Duramax for the past 7 days :D Man, what a great tow rig!
Tank, no my 'Gun is not for sale. Every now and then I think about upgrading to a newer ride but we've got my old girl dialed in so good that to replace it with a newer boat (that would be as reliable) would be way more $$$ than I could ever throw at this foolish hobby :D We dropped the boat at the shop and we are very pumped to re-rig this neglected '92 Top Gun. It is going to make a real fun winter project! Kurt |
Re: Who would let this happen!?
Kurt, get us some more pics so we can compare before and after when you're done.

Re: Who would let this happen!?
Hey you gearheads! You know how it is when you get a new project?
We pulled the motors and de-rigged the engine compartment Sunday afternoon. Monday the upholstery man stopped by to order material. He is starting on the cabin tomorrow. Today the 'ol dirty Top Gun went out to get scrubbed from top to bottom. Man, what a difference a good scrubbing does. After a good look at everything, it seems that this boat has not been ridden too hard. The hull is in great shape, had mild power, TRS drives and cable steering. With that combination you really can't tax an older straight bottom Top Gun. Trannies will go to Huber next week. Blocks will be at the machine shop Friday and the KONRAD drives will be ordered soon. I sure wish they would fix the auto resize program. (can't resize) Kurt |
