90 MPH Poster

2 Attachment(s)
Last year March there was a post done, Top Gun Poster. In the post Partycove said his Sister bought a car at a dealership in St Louis and someone that worked there had one. Well I did some detective work and contacted him and he said he used to race Offshore boats and was in Key West and bought the poster and took it right home and framed it. When I asked if he would sell it to me he said he would think about it and let me know.
After about 8 months I called the dealership and he had left there and moved . Well found him again at Route 66 Chevrolet in Missouri. Called him and he said he had lost my number and would like to sell it to me . Received it Friday in a very nice frame and looks beautiful. I didn't realize it was 21"X32".
Tres confirmed in the other post that the boat in the poster is our boat. I guess the hatch was replaced when the tunnel rams where replaced with the 1471 BDS blowers.

I would like to thank Mr Cig for giving me his August 1989 Power Boat Magazine that had an article about the boat also. You Da Man Mark

I picked up a copy of the build sheet from Bud when I was at the new Cigarette plant last year for the Miami Boat Show.

I know there is an article in another magazine and I saw Brandon post a Hawk brochure with a picture of it in it. If anyone has any of these and will part with them I sure would appreciate it. This is my second Cigarette and I won't own anything else. I still have the Mistress if anyone is looking for a Beautiful 35'.

Good stuff Doug!

How's the motors coming along? Have they done the preliminary dyno runs yet? You gonna make the Miami show?

Re: 90 MPH Poster

Not going to make it to the show this year and really going to miss seeing everyone and the show.
To many irons in the fire, lots of boating plans for the summer and putting the boat back to the condition that Tres had it when he kept it. First Poker Run is in May with Cignifigant Other and his Top Gun.
Motors are at Weco in Grand Rapids Mi. Game plan was to make a pull and find out where they are at , Change valve springs and then make some pulls to tune up and maybe turn up. :D . I rebuilt the carbs because they where a mess from sitting so long with fuel in them. Dave put it on the dyno and decided to peek under the valve covers and found a broken inner spring. Waiting now for the spring to be changed on both motors and away we go.

First off Doug I would like to say that the 90mph Top Gun is my all time favorite boat they have ever done. So I love yours.

I would just like to know why the boat in the poster has a black stripe vs your red stripe outlining the center white bar. I've had that poster since SL sold me 2 of them when they were new. It may very well have been painted after the fact. There were a few of these built. I would just like to know. :)

Nice rig.

Doug: I could just get lost in the picture of your boat on Lake Mich.... It's great. You should get that one framed and on the wall too.

I'll vouch for how nice his 35 mistress is, and how much love he puts into his boats. The next owner of the mistress is going to receive a heck of a boat.

There has to be more than a few that were painted that way.

There were. That's why I am skeptical about the poster boat vs. Dougs. Also, the poster boat has the original 90mph hatch. I find it interesting that someone would want to change the paint and hatch. Those 2 options are the part of the 90mph Edition trait.

Doug,

I have a large 'overhead-and-from-behind' shot while the boat is at speed of the first TG that you posted in this thread ( with the black stripe outline ). It was taken when the boat was still new, and its being driven by Norval Stahly, one of the owners of Everglades Marina at that time. I have it framed and on a wall in my house, but I could have one duplicated and sent to you if you wanted one.

Jamie B I would love to have a copy of your prints I will email you shortly.

I don't know what to say. With the dash being changed, engine hatch changed for the blowers, extension box's, #5's, cleats where changed to pin type, I can see where the line chock holes have been plugged, I guess changing the stripe would have been no big deal. Tres did mention blocking and clear coating it but don't remember anything about the stripe.
This is all I have to go by.

If I remember right Tres told me he worked at Everglades and work on it while he was there.

I saw some of the pictures he has in his project book last year when I was down there.

Re: 90 MPH Poster

let set the record straight. Dougs boat is the original 90 MPH. One day when I pull out my scrap boat I will show you guys. The boat was sold through my father @ Everglades to a Mr Frank Arnold who owned it for many years. When I tested the boat from the factory with hawks it ran 88 MPH. As the time passed the owner wanted to go faster. He hated the paint job. It was not a black stripe on the brochure, it is dark blue and Frank did not like that so we removed the black stripe and repainted it Red. We also added 6 coats of clear and block sanded the boat to get the best finish. as time passed this boat was kept in a wharehouse in which I was instructed every year to strip the boat and start all over every year. new interior even if it was perfect and anodize again rebuild the engines etc., you name it . It was my pet project boat, and I kept it perfect every night. It soon became called "unpredictable" in which we got a 2nd cig we jazzed up and called it " predictable" had a reverse paint job. After we sold the Predictable boat, we renamed the 90 MPH " The Hardway" after the craps table. This boat was always kept in a wharehouse with all his show cars on a race style Myco. It was allways a show boat but was a Rocket in the poker runs, 40 to 100 MPH in 4.5 secs. and everone knew this boat well. Later down the road, It got sold to a guy in Chicago, named Ben. It did not get maintaned to much and many other got there hands on it and when I last saw it I almost cried. It had not received the same kind of attention that was used to. But it got too many stories for me to list here but ,,, Its the one. I put a lot of time , money and energy into that boat. Hopefully it can be restored back to show condition again.

Doug or Tres,
what year is this boat ?

I remember seeing and hearing it on the Everglades Easter Poker Run in 1996. At that time, I thought it was a new boat, it was that immaculate.

I thought all the 90 MPH models were staggered setup like mine, is this a correct assumption?

My boat has saddle tanks in the engine compartment and twin tanks up front, under the cockpit floor, they have a plate stamped "90 MPH" for model

Thanks for clearing that up Tres.
The boat is a 1990 and there are 2 saddle tanks per side, nothing under the cockpit floor.
