Props in or out?
 

I recently had my drives gone thru and the repair facility swapped the drives from one side to the other. From turning out to in. They said this would help them wear more evenly - makes sense. My question is - will the boat act differently? will I lose speed or ride?. My boat is a 1999 TG with stock 505MPI's. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

lot of variables, but usually, by turning in you may get a little more speed on the top end, bow will lift slightly more....however, you will probably note a little less maneuverability around the docks...... other than that, probably not much difference.....don't know about wearing any differently....

Get the bumpers ready when docking if you haven't operated many boats set up inward. You will be disappointed in the idle speed handling. :mad:

Try the top end and mid-range before complaining. You may pick up 1-2 mph depending on your drives and props. You will probably loose some rough water stability.

Take it for a spin and post your results.

Docking sucks when turning in on my boat.

Might be faster but I would rather not mess up parking than gain 1.5 mph...

Of course I'd have to actually run my boat first :( :(

i have always turned out for the handeling reason but i always had a problem w/ it backing one way much better than the other(cant remember which way) but during testing props, i turned em in, handeling when backing was much better. i can back up and move both ways real good. it was slightly worse when trying to spin it but all i had to do was rev the reverse motor slightly. this is on a bullet though so yours may be different :)

Did they just swap the drives, but leave the props on the original side? I can see them swapping the drives for the reason of even wear, but to change the props too w/o talking with you 1st? Unlikely
They would have had to also swap the cables at the cables at the shifters if they did swap the props. If just the drives, you won't notice anything.


As far as prop direction:
Mine was worthless around the docks, especially backing up with the props turning in. Swapped to turning out. Night and day difference. I'd give up 10 mph for the manueveriabilty. Course, mine already goes 120, so what's 10 moph less? ;)
