I think that ZZ383 crate motor makes 425 hp, 450 ft lbs/tq. My buddy has about 150 hrs on his. So far zero problems.

Re: Post your Oldschool ride!

My mirage had the original Mercruiser Tempest 300HP engine with 650 hours on it. It ran fine but the oil pressure was getting low, and I wanted more power. I did a lot of research and even talked to Mercruiser tech dept on what to do. Mercruiser recommended upgrading to vortec type heads, so I ended up with a vortec head style 383 crate engine.
I found it a wash ($$ wise) as to rebuild my engine or get another one already done, so I just got another engine. It is a 4 bolt with Eagle crank, hyper pistons (10:1), new big valve heads, steel roller tip rockers, gear drive, milodon pan, ARP hardware, and a performer rpm manifold with 750 marine carb. I think the cam is around 525 lift. I got the engine with a new balancer and flywheel as the 383 engines have a different balance than our stock 350s have. I had to get new valve covers also as the vortec heads use the centerbolt style covers (and have a different intake bolt pattern).
I only have about 3 hours on the engine, but I tell you WOW. I gained about 600 RPM. I have a new prop waiting to be tried out when weather permits.
I'm very happy with the power of the new engine, way more torque.
