Aronow's The Cigarette Pic's

Does anyone have any other pic's of the Cary named The Cigarette that Don Aronow won all the races with in 1969. The only pic I have seen is the one where he is at about a 45 degree angle getting big air. I would like to see more of this boat like the cock pit and engine compartment and drives. Where is this boat now?

There was almost two "The Cigarette" Cary 32'.
In 1969 Aronow to partecipate to World Championships must go in Europe, then he builded for him two boats.
After he won the World Title, sold one of "The Cigarette" to the Italian driver Vincenzo Balestrieri that renamed it "Black Tornado",mainteining the same colours. Balestrieri bought another Cary 32' still named "Black Tornado" for Francesco Cosentino,of the Tornado Racing Team.
Balestrieri used the 32' until the 1972.
The other Black Tornado after that Balestrieri modified it in 1971 shortened to 31' with a new lighter wodden deck, come back in Usa where was sold to Hal Sahlman and raced in 1974.
The second original "The Cigarette" was sold to the Australians Carr brothers and there it raced.
After the Carr brothers were killed in a race the boat was used by the other Ausssie Arnold Glass in 1973-74 and then Norman Jenkin in 1975.
Of this Cary 32' and the others Cary 32' I don't know what happened and if they still exists.
Anyone know something more?

Nice... Keep um comming. Is that the actual Cigarette engine compartment or one like it? I thuoght they were running Kinsler fuel injection with some sort of headers?

Black Tornado 10-13-2006 05:14 PM

Re: Aronow's The Cigarette Pic's

The picture was taken in 1970 on the new Black Tornado, former one of the The Cigarette.
The fuel injections came in 1971 with the engines prepared from the Indy wizard Andy Granatelli for the Blondes of Roger Hanks and in Europe with Lucas systems in the Lady Nara of Ronny Bonelli of the Italian team Firebird.

Re: Aronow's The Cigarette Pic's

Look closely at the photo....there was only one set of throttles....the position of throttleman didn't begin until Bobby Moore started doing the throttles for Bill Wishnick, which was after Don had retired.

Don's hand is on the throttles as seen in this photo.

Gotta love those old log manifolds, hard to beleive that is what they were runiing for exhaust back then you hafta wonder how they made so many horses back in the day.Compression?

Maybe the Compression but not so much, because at that time those V8 held without blown out. Not like the Kiekhaefer in 1972-73.Thats they made fireworks very often if you wasn't under "personal protection" of Karl..... like Magoon or Bonomi.

Re: Aronow's The Cigarette Pic's

MerC Guns!
Still with carburators, the MerCruisers, and the Kiekhaefers, changed the exhausts pipes turned them from the stern to the sides in 1971.
