Let me clarify....Menard didn't race until the following year, 1980....in the USA.

Marco that other boat you asked about, was the pace boat....it had a full glass windshield and hatches in the deck etc.

Also, someone said that Clauser was in the Copper Kettle, it was Arnold Glass.

Clauser was in the 35 Cigarette closest to the beach in the start photo # 56.
You are right Charlie.
I thought that the rumors about Clauser in a Bertram 38' Satisfaction was a novel.
In that Bacardi there was two Bounty and Martin didn't race with a leg inside a cockpit and the other one on the other cockpit....

Jean Claude Simon designed the 38 and we agreed that the design would be one that we could block the mold and take a 34 or 33 or 35 or whatever out of the mold.

We were making both banana and Coyotes out of the same mold and I just got out of the business as interest rates were around 22% and gas prices etc....boat building was not my main business, so I let him continue on....eventually he saw the light too and sold the mold to Sonic.

Hello Allen - I am very sorry to hear about Dave - he was quite a guy - he and Bobby Sheer were the ones that I met when Don Smith bought my Bertram - Sammy James was the one that got me hooked on Offshore - way back - wonder if he is on line here - if you can say Hi to him - and Wille Myers - well - I remember meeting him in Freeport Bahamas for the Bahamas 500 in 1971.

A sad day - reading about Dave - living here in NJ - we dont get the news from your area -

Yes....and I notice that the cover is still on it....maybe if you had Bobby and Jason back then, the boat would have been all ready to go...... by the time the sleepy time driver woke up and got down to the dock.

Yes... Could you imagine if they were around then, they would have fit in perfectly. Bobby behind the wheel & Jason navigating, if we could get them to look at anything except the Hubbu Hubbas.
