Bad Girl Ken, any way that you could get some photos to post of the boat's current state? Does it still have that wild '80s paint job intact?

I think that boat is a knockout, then again, I own two Camaros...

Bad Girl 01-17-2007 01:02 PM

Re: burn baby burn

yes , it still has the same paint job. however it is not in the best shape. I has degraded over the years. The boat has been been in storage sitting disassembled with all the original parts for about 17-18 +yrs. No moters to speak of. Past owner has done some nice glass work and added a fairing. New owner wants to add more seating like a 6 pack. Will work on pics.

Re: burn baby burn

Thanks Ken!

Anyone in-the-know what to tell me what this boat is? The deck and cockpit are very different from the mistresses I've seen. The cockpit is much shorter between the hatches and the windscreen and it doesn't have the v-windshield like the standard mistress nor the more vertical race fairing like the racier mistresses.

The deck looks like the old 36' Widebody deck, but it clearly isn't as wide as the widebody. The Cockpit area looks like the widebody cockpit too, but again the area between the cockpit sides and the deck edge are much narrower (compared to the '72 that's in the classifieds).

Is it a 35' or a 36'?

I love the look of this boat. If I could figure out what it was, I'd start keeping my eye out for one...

Thanks!

The boat you are talking about is a staggered engine 35` race boat, same as the race boats of that era, ie: Benihana, american eagle, Dry Martini etc. The guy that used to own it, his name was Ron not sure of last name, he was the one with Richie Sapulla who copied a 41` apache, cut it down put a canopy on it and crashed it pretty bad in a testing accident boat was called Cigar. Back to the 35`. The deck and cokpit was like the widebody 36` because it was the same deck. Don used to set the 36` race deck on the 35` and cut the edges off to fit the narrow beam, most of them were slightly off center, depended on the day the deck was put on as to how straight it was. Don never built a race deck for the 35` race boats. I was the one who modified the old square box hatches from the 40` widbody deck to fit the 35` race setup. I`m not sure of origin of Burn baby burn, It may have been Billy Mcdonalds 35` race boat. 7XCHAMP

Thanks Richie. Nice to get some info from the guy who made the Cigarettes smoke, so to speak!

So I'm guessing that it's fair to say these things are somewhat hard to come by compared to finding an old mistress or 36'. How many were out there originally?

From the looks of it, the boat is similar to the Bounty Hunter that Billy Martin is running right now. Is that correct? (Edit - I finally saw better pictures of Bounty Hunter, I'm guessing it's a widebody 36' not the narrow 35' like this boat).

Thanks again!

It`s similar but not the same. The Boat Billy is currently running looks like the widebody 36` Since I have been responding to the forums it makes me think back and wonder what 35` it was that billy ran for a few races, I wonder if it`s possible it could have been the 35` Conspiracy/MightyMouse boat. If Don asked to use it from the owner I`m sure it would have been no problem, and if I remember he only ran it once or twice as Don had him run the 39` halter brown and black boat??????????????????/ Makes me wonder, I don`t really recall, but would make sense if nobody knows what happened to the 35` 7XCHAMP

New Old Pic's Of Burn Baby Burn

It took about a year to find these pictures of this Cig. These were taken about 20 years ago in the Clinton Township Mi police impound yard. My friend Terry said it was very sad to see it this way. One of the hatches were missing, and all the eng & electrical hardware, and full of snow. Shure hope that it is in restoration.

allfiredup 03-28-2008 08:52 PM

I believe that was when it was at Shadowoods off of 15 mile road. They use to be one of the impound yards that clinton police used. That's when I seen the boat my bro kept his late model racecar there.

ViciousOne 03-29-2008 08:55 AM

Frank the old owner of that Ciggie was at my shop last thursday for his monthly BS session.

Ben I forgot that Shadowoods had a impound yard, were these pic's taken longer than 20 years ago ? I know the Cig was missing in the early 80's.

If everything go's as schedule Rob's boat will be going into paint towards the end of the week, your brothers engine compartment is all done except for gelcoat I have to tint up a turqouise color. I am pulling it off the trailer and starting on the bottom soon !
This winter has been just a big money juggle!!:party-smiley-004:

Stolen???

The boat looks to be in rough shape for being about 10yrs old.

Was it put back together by Frank after this??

.......Nice pic by the way.

I also noticed that the deck is white and also the dash.

Dude! Sweet! 04-02-2008 11:42 AM

The side on shot looks like the deck is still black. The dash/cockpit look white, but I wonder if the deck itself isn't just covered in what you eskimos like to call "snow"? :D

Sorry, still a bit sore that Niagara went down to Michigan in the first round of the NCAA hockey tournament!

Frank never put it back together, but who ever striped her really did a number on it. And that is snow on the deck, old camera lots of glare. Here the post from 1-17-07 that said it in restoration. It's been over a year, hope they post some pic's.

Troy, there's a bunch of photos in this thread, but you'll probably have to buy a membership to see them. I've got some downloaded though. Feel free to email or PM if you want me to forward them to you. Very very cool boat! Hope you bring her back to her '70s shag glory!
