Hi Lee, the old 31 looks good, it was a great running boat up to about 92mph and then out of control!
The 26 was sold to Raul Broach who later crashed it during a race in Ventura California, The boat was wrecked beyond repair and was sent to the grave yard! It was a very succesful boat in its day, winning National, Divisional and world titles along with its A class record at 93mph.

Hi everyone. I'm the owner of the 1990 Larry Smith Scarab now that was raced as Rain-X Express, CF Express, Indy Blackhawk. It's still in it's Indy Blackhawk B-class dress exactly as it was. It's good to be on here!

Clarification: Chris Smith was not Larry Smith`s son, Larry only has a daughter. Little known fact is that Charlie Strang, then President and CEO of O.M.C. along with Larry Smith asked if I would test run the boat and give an evaluation as to wheather the accident was driver error or the fault of the boat. I tested the boat in Stuart at the O.M.C. test base, I took Larry Smith and a friend of mine to drive, It was rough as hell, and we ran the snot out of the boat, tripped it in once and Larry hit his elbow, I think broke it, was in lot`s of pain, we finished the run, all OK I then raced the boat in open class in inaugural St Augustine race, rookie driver and navigator we got third in open class, same race Rockie A. disintegrated his Cat with Howard Quam. By finishing third the boat qualified to run the worlds in Key West with some Aussies who bought it and I believe took it to Australia. The boat was awsome fast for it`s time, estimated HP each I was told was over 450hp, power to weight made it quick, Best I saw was 92 mph at a time when the best scarabs were running 88 to 90. The boat accelerated really hard, was actually a fun boat, could have been tweaked and C.G.`d a little better. Shame about the two deaths, but they just ran it over there head and got bit.

First of all thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge on this thread and forum. I know I am replying to a post almost a year and a half old, but it was still an amazing experience to read what you wrote about the tripple OMC setup. You must also know a few details about Michael Reagans record setting boat from Anchorage to Seattle. I own a 34SS with the same set up and has used a few years to restore the boat. I finally got a hold of a 30" midsection and will have my powerheads buildt by Gordon Montuage eventually. That you actually saw 92 just made my day as I was hoping for 88 but still havent seen more than mid 60's due to X dimensions and worn motors. Thanks again, here is what it looks like, not a true racer but in the process of beating the current CC record held by Fountain.

Anybody heard of an old 38 named Heat Wave??? Bobby Moore may have had something to do with it. I've got a buddy that owns it and wanted to see if there was any past history on her.

I couldnt be sure without seeing it but I think that boat used to run in our neck of the woods. Seems I remember seeing it in the early 90's on the San Bernard River in Brazoria County?

Hi Kev68theone, just a little more info, the boat was originally built for Alan Parisher and named "Splish Splash" and won pretty much everything when new. Later owned by Marc Franz and then Mike Stancomb.
