"Pop" Meekins
Just got off the horn with Pop. He lives near New Bern, NC now, and is 76 years old. One funny SOB. He was Bobby Moore's brother-in-law in the old days, and head mechanic at Holman Moody Marine. He rode with Harold Abbott and Chuck Daigh in Dinny Phipps' 31 Bertram in the 1964 Miami Nassau Race. They won the race. Next year, he rode with Aronow, when he won. In those days, the driver usually drove, throttled and navigated, but there was usually a lot of work for the riding mechanic. Pop was a gifted mechanic and one of the funniest and most pleasant guys I ever met.

Pop Meekins death
Just wanted to let all know that Pop Meekins passed away this week and was buried today in Greenleaf Cemetary in New Bern, North Carolina. The family asked me to try and find any pictures that anyone might have of Pop in the early days.
