Donzi Found In Yard

Does anyone know of a Donzi from the 70's called "Little Broad Jumper"? I happen to know it's in Conn. Saw it in the woods, cover had blown off. Any History?

Yeah, that boat is covered pretty extensively in SeaRace by John Crouse. If my memory of the book is right, that was an Aronow-built Donzi. If it REALLY is Little Broad Jumper, let me know what woods it's in, I'll be there!!!!

This is a question for Brownie in that he drove the Broad Jumper.....

I remember a "Big Broad Jumper"..... and the original Broad Jumper...but no "Little Broad Jumper"....?

You're probably right T2, I must be remembering "Big Broad Jumper" from Crouse's book.

I own this boat now as of this past June. The owner finally wanted to sell it. It was a big project getting it out of the wood...Had to cut trees down, pull stumps, etc. After sitting there for 35 years it was buried!

Turns out it was all worth the work. This boat is the famous 28 foot Donzi race boat "Broad Jumper" or in the last years it was called "Lil' Broad Jumper". The history behind this boat is amazing. It will be restored in the near future back to its original days of glory.

F-2 Speedy 11-09-2017 09:21 AM

what kind of condition is it in ?? engines and drives still attached ? post a pic of it

DCF 11-09-2017 09:31 AM

Its engines, transmissions and v-drives are gone. The single rudder setup is all there. some of the ballast tank and floor to deck bulkheading is still there. Boat will need stringers and coring. Its not horrible and I have seen worse. Unfortunately I cant post pictures as I am not a full member.

This the boat?

Been looking for it for some time. I have the Nova24 race boat. Twin motors to a single V Drive to a single prop. Have lots of questions and would love to see the set up.
You can use Google Photos for picture hosting.
Here is what I did (why don't OSO have a video button?). www.youtube.com/watch?v=LA-bAhO101g

DCF 11-09-2017 12:14 PM

Yes that's the boat.

It's the same people on both sites except .net is 'public' by comparison with .org

.net is the 'original site' as you know . What makes the people on the newer site the experts but the same people on the older site aren't ?

Anyone searching for information is going to find it a lot easier on .net

It was a simple reply to ajs's post and sorry .net is not the only Donzi website of authority on the web. I also have to say with no disrespect to my friends on ,net, 1, I doubt that many at .net know much about Donzi tandem boats at all. 2, Besides Brownie (and it comes as a shock to me also) I may be the authority on how the drive train goes together being I have the only tandem motor to a single v drive to a single prop set up that works that I know of.
My boat's drive train was a almost copy (minor upgrades) of the Donzi 28's and I have often wondered if it may have actually came out of one. Once they were done racing these boats they were nothing but wasted fiberglass at that point so they stripped them most of the time and dumped it in the new boat. Just made sense. Why leave parts rot in the yard? I could easily see Brownie having the Donzi sitting out back (that's now a few years old) and saying lets slap the power out of it in this new 24 foot Nova hull and see if we can get it to work this time (the minor upgrades I mentioned). I don't know though. My research is fuzzy back then and everyone I ask says if you remember to much you were not really there.
Brownie is going to have to chime in to know for sure

Just where in CT was this boat found.

Just curious seeing how I lived there for 15 years.
