Remember COLIBRI ??

This boat has been my favorite since mid 80’s. I’l never forget this design or sound. This boat made a HUGE impression at that time, and it’s THE COOLEST boat I’ve ever seen. Thank’s Fabio :D
I have only seen 2 boats of this design, COLIBRI with Didier Pironi and a boat I’ve seen lately with LEADER decals on the side. Don’t know if it’s the same boat but they both have # 4 and ELF paint. LEADER has canopy, and it’s too bad Pironi didn’t have that 23.08.87
Anyone with a story to tell, or maybe raced against it??
Maybe some good pic’s…
Happy Christmas, Frank

Frank,

You are talking about the same boat. Following the fatal accident at Poole, Colibri, although not damaged wasn't raced until the World Finals in Key West in 87. There, another ex-Formula 1 driver, Jean Pierre Jarier was behind the wheel.
By then, the boat had been renamed "Leader". Leader was the original sponsor (a food distribution group) but they had chosen to name the boat with one of their product: Colibri (cakes/cookies). Other than that, the boat was in the same configuration as raced by Didier Pironi.
The boat re-appeared in 1990. By now, it had been radically transformed and equipped with the enclosed cockpit you described above. At the helm was Bob Feeler, a motorbike dragster champion. Unfortunately, by then Cats had become too quick and Leader was not competitive anymore.

Phil.

Thank's DT for the pic's and info. Belived Colibri was in a museum in France, but I was wrong about that.
Happy Christmas... Fr@nk

Frank,

You are right on that too. Following its racing days, Colibri had been left in storage in the south of France and not particularly well looked after. Since it has been purchased (don't know by who) and restaured exactly to the way it looked when raced by Didier Pironi. Colibri is now on display in the Automobile Museum in Loheac, Brittany.

Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Phil.
