First time I saw it, reminded me of an aircraft carrier.

Re: Anyone remember this one?
I remember it! If I remember right, it only ran a few races-then was scrapped.

Re: Anyone remember this one?
I took this in Pt. Pleasant, NJ. I was young, I think the race was still the Hennesy Grand Prix or maybe just became the Benihana. I didn't recall seeing the boat in the race that day.

Re: Anyone remember this one?
yes it was pt pleasant i remember it 77or 78 , i think i remember it being called "the sea knife" ugly as sin and bobbed like a cork.

Re: Anyone remember this one?
Yes, It was called SEA KNIFE - We filmed it after the completion of a race - It was unique - kinda wet ride too -. It would slow down in a hurry as well when it dove into a big wave. Message T3x and ask him - he should have film of it -

The hull was flat bottomed with a stainless steel blade on the bow designed to "cut through the waves". It was originally tested at Lake X where it had to be towed on plane........
Sponsorship was something called "Cando" which was that era's millionaire backer with too much money and an ear for any hair brained idea. We watched it run only once....at Point PLeasant,.....as a "Promotional display" for the concept. They had solved the planing problem with bow ballast by then....... Top speed was about 30 mph. The hull broached badly, wobbling all over the place and bow steering uncontrollably. It could not run down sea at all while on plane. It was good for a few laughs, and yet another display of a fool and his money........etc. Come to think of it, it's been 20+ years so it's about time for some one else to re-invent this concept (see below).....This time with outriggers.:p T2x |
Re: Anyone remember this one?
Anyone know what happened to it? Scraped or sitting on a lot somewhere? Be interesting to find it.

Re: Anyone remember this one?
Hello,
Wasn't Howard Arneson involved with it some how? I remember seeing it at Point Pleasant also in 1977 or 1978? Thank you Jim |
Re: Anyone remember this one?
wasn't Can Do the name on Dave Albert's (RIP) boats ?
|
Re: Anyone remember this one?
The Navy Seals use a boat called a VSV (Very Slender Vessel) that looks like a similar in concept.
|
Re: Anyone remember this one?
Actually the entertaining part of that boat was watching Lupo try to drive it out to the lake bouncing off the seawall as it bobbed like a cork. Steered kinda like dropping penny on edge in a glass of water.
Last I know seen was in a field somewhere near the Sarasota airport sometime around 1985 |

Yes his last boats were named Can Do and that is a picture of it above. Before Can Do I think he raced Speedy Doris? PS - Ryan, happy belated birthday |
