Can anybody tell me - was this beast made of wood or alloy? I can't quite decipher!

Aluminum. It was later stretched to become the 50' Gentry that has been around these pages lately.

great stories guys, are there any pics of the insides of these beasts, its a real art to build wood 150mph boats,i saw 1 years ago half apart being fixed and couldn't believe the detail of fitting the wood together

Oooooooooh!
Finally in Classic Offshore we re-talk about the Offshore Classic!:food-smiley-007:

However Brownie, this appears to be just a 50' like in post 123...and I think it was on wood.
Richie can tell us something about it.

There was another Cougar with central cockpit for Gentry.
It was In aluminium and made him debut in the first race of the Viareggio's Finals in 1984 WC,then totally missed.

If it is the same boat that ran over here, it was aluminum.... Gentry had another big Cougar that was wood, but it had twin cockpits......

This one was designed during Brownie's "dumpster period".....which is something that all of us went through...:p:p:p
