1985 Cougar race cat
Does anybody know this boats history?, A friend is looking at buying it.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1985-...QQcmdZViewItem. Thank you Hugh |
I believe Jack Bishop raced a 24' Cougar [Smillin' Jacks] in APBA Stock class before he raced his 30' Modified class Chris Cat. I looked at it back in the late 80,s when it was for sale, this may be it ???? I may still have a add for it in one of my old Powerboat Magazines.

That looks like the Toleman twins boat. We imported one of these to America in the mid '80's and wiped out "Production" Class
|
Thank you for the info, it looks fast for back in the day...
|
It was probably Scarlett O'hara's and then Smilin Jacks........hope it doesn't have termites.

If it is the old Tolman Group, Scarlett O'hara's, Smilin Jacks, and Paradox I built the boat in 1979/80. The boat was originally built for UIM class 3D (4 litre class) It was raced by Mike & Gary Toleman when they moved up to Class 2 the boat was sold to America to a guy called Walter Beasley who raced it as Scarlett O'hara's, somewhere I have some pictures of it blowing over backwards during a kilo run in Sarasota when it was called Paradox
|
The Kilo it blew over in was 1987 I THINK and it was in New Orleans.

hull #
I went down to look at this boat and could not find the hull #. I thought the hull # would be on the back transom but there was no #'s. Did Cougar not stamp hull #'s. The boat looked okay but it has been sitting inside for a long long time. The 2.5's have been replaced by 25" 200 hp fishing motors. The owner said he bought it from a guy in FL. and than had it repainted and raced it one time in CA. Said he hit a sea lion and hurt the boat and never raced it again. He could not find the cowlings that went in front of the motors.
