Dude! Sweet! 09-18-2007 05:17 PM

What is it?

I remember, but couldn't find, a thread a while discussing this boat. An OSO member saw it in a field.

The description is hilarious!

Anyone know what it is or the real story. Looks sort of Bertram-ish.

Did Bertram make a model called the Drug Runner? :D :D :cool-smiley-027:

I thought that John McMonigle had some depp descriptions for his high-end homes in Shady Canyon and Newport Coast. This guy has a vivid imagination. I need him to write a few of my bids.

Probably splashed from a sutphen mold?

Outcast1 09-18-2007 05:54 PM

Looks like a Bertram Competition 38 deck to me, probably a splash.

Stormrider 09-18-2007 09:08 PM

That boat would be the creation of Miami boat builder/racer, Umberto Picon CARRERA early to mid 1980`s era. He was very proud of that boat, was made for diesels mainly, not sure how many he made. I believe it was 38` and very strange at best. It was a well built boat for sure, as Umberto was one of the best builders of the time. Umberto was a very good friend, and called me to please go see it when he first previewed it, all I could say is, sure is different, and then he went into all the reasons why he designed it that way, none of which made sense to me, but there you go. Brownie will also remeber this one I`m sure. 7XCHAMP

That boat has been all over NH, It has been for sale on its side(no blocking) on Route 1 , in a field, and always for crazy money. Would bright yellow be the color of choice for a drug runner ?

littlenige 09-20-2007 10:45 AM

Whilst it is similar to a bertram 38 I don't think it's a splash. No disrespect to the designer or builder but it's nowhere near as beautiful!

Dude! Sweet! 09-20-2007 12:16 PM

Thanks guys! I just sort of got a kick out of the ad and was curious. I'd have to agree with Nige that the old Bertram 38 Comps were one of the sexiest race boats built! The new Donzi ZRC kind of reminds me of the old Berts.

Unfortunately no... Dang kids!

The ZRC has the flat deck and low freeboard like the big Bert. Conrad's old race boat is the only one I've seen in person, but that was the first thing that occured to me is how the shape was similar to the 38 Bertram race boats.

"Spirit" Boats Were Made in the 80's By Roger Munn. Maybe he Would Know More About this Boat.

Jr.

Billy Martin 09-20-2007 06:33 PM

Just Spoke to Roger Munn, Said he Never Made a 39' Boat, and would never call it a drugrunner as a model lol. He also Said First Boat out of Production was in 1989. When Asked Was there another Boat Manufacturer "Spirit" out of Miami, He said No. I just E-Mailed him the link and Pics for Review. If any other info Comes up Will let you know. There is only 1.5 Hours left on it though. Hope this helps if any?

Jr.

Dude! Sweet! 09-24-2007 02:35 PM

Thanks Billy (jr)! I posted more for recreational purposes and out of curiousity, but the stories and info are great.

I can find enough ways to get myself into trouble with proven hulls that run... Don't need to get mixed up in the kind of nonsense that these eBay deralicts would bring! :D

bouyhunter 09-24-2007 04:56 PM

Wow, it actually sold for $19,500.
So, somebody spent 20K to buy themselves a second job.
I couldn't imagine taking on that project. And, to what end??
What do you really have when it's done??:confused::confused:

Dude! Sweet! 09-24-2007 05:03 PM

Is the second job going to involve cutting the stripped hull into pieces small enough to fit into dumpsters all around your town?

Yes, but only after dropping 10-20 large into this project.

As I said - a couple hundred on a chainsaw and this can all go away.

BOBCATMATHEWS 09-24-2007 10:55 PM

this boat was obviously used for duck hunting, notice all the vegetation,(camo) poor choice for brand name recognition,"the drugrunner 2000 has all the features you have come to expect, high visibility, open exhaust and a twenty gallon fuel tank"(sorry i am bored)cheers :p

HTRDLNCN 09-25-2007 01:19 PM

it was a 39' and they built at least 3 of them
one of which was raced, one with triple 300' outboards and the diesel one..
They were built as Carreras ..
and its spelled Humberto not Umberto...
:)
