Well, if you are going to use my photo, the least you can do is to give some credit to HORBA....Historic Offshore Race Boat Association and a link wouldn't hurt either.

No....Bill Cooper had a way of making sure that it made the minimum length requirement. And by the way....he finished 2nd overall in the Long beach to San Francisco race with this thing.

Bud, here is the 20' Formula LIL' CAESAR, with Bruce Ward & Co-Driver Gary Carlos. The year 1973-74, Gary would later race in the WOLVERINE.

Restored 233 on Ebay

There is a nice looking 233 on Ebay right now. It's been converted to a center console. Looks like very nice work.

Here is the address http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=280211595052

Top Banana. I've inserted some links to www.historicraceboats as well as www.BananaBoatCo.com on the 233 site. Hope that's ok. Again, thanks for your invaluable contributions.

How well did the 20's perform?

What year did the deck change? Seems like some time in the early seventies. Were any other hull changes made at that time? I'm partial to the original style - it's beyond classic.

MrMagloo 08-17-2012 02:59 PM

In the early 70's they went to the large cockpit layout. In 1978 they unveiled the Interceptor, a version with the short cockpit, longer deck layout which ran through the 1983 model year, and then was replaced by the 242 for 1984. They dropped the Interceptor name in 1982 and thereforth called it the 233LS.

I bought that '78 show model yellow 260 single and promptly blew the motor on the test drive that spring. Formula replaced the entire boat, with a new one, which was considerably better finished. Had that boat for 2 years and moved up to the 302.

In addition to the Interceptor/LS, C & CL, they also had a Center Console and Hardtop version as well. For a couple of years, Formula even offered a Tuna tower option!

I'm selling my interceptor and would prefer to see it go to somebody that cares about them, so i'll give a better deal to somebody off here

Mike...as I said before...if I wasn't balls deep in this 255 Liberator project I would come get it.

I can't believe you haven't moved it yet.

So am I correct to think that the only Long Flat deck models were the early (66-72ish) 233S Sportsman? After that they all appear to have the deck raised a few inches, including the Interceptor.

I believe you are right. The 'newer' long deck versions of the Interceptor layout were definitely raised a bit.
