As a follow up to the SI articles, here is a pic of the sinking. You can just about see the 3 crew (Sopwith,Shead & de Selincourt) in the oggin to the far left.Thats what happens when you get an attack of nerves over a hot machinery space with a can of oil in your hand,so I was told.

Still an exclusive shot from the oceanic library of flying fish.
The attack of nerves had perhaps been caused by Crise before the competition because he didn't want to accept the inscription of that boat with the turbos.

Marco,

Could you give us some background of Balestrieri outside of his powerboat racing?

Cordiali Saluti,

Jeff

Cordiali Saluti,

As it regards the site www.albaco.net/tornado you can find a lot on the competitions offshore and his boats where you will find several photos from my library.
It seems me to understand that you wanted to know something on the Balestrieri in the life out of the offshore.
Vincenzo Balestrieri was born in Rome and it is graduated in law and his principal activity it was in the building constructions.
From young he has been a sportsman in several disciplines as,boxing, soccer, basketball, jujitsu and auto-racing and light athletics where in 1940 at 14 won a gold medal.
He has frequented in USA the YMCA and in fact its English was not reduced only to pronounce Coke and Sprite words as ironically Crouse has written on Searace.
Today I believe he is still titular of a brand of boats in fiberglass/composite in the area of Anzio.
If however you want to know more something on him you can ask son Alex in the site.
