Several of them became then other named boats for the same drivers or others new owners. |
Black Tornado,
The boat behind "Slap Shot" in post 6 is "White Knight" this was Aronow's original #4 "Maltese Magnum". The Magnum is being restored. I just emailed the owner of the boat to tell him of the picture/thread.:) |
White Knight
I know that boat. In 1967 Aronow built several 28' with different solutions about engines and trasmissions.
|
Superb Black Tornado!
Sabre Dance was bought by Arnold Glass in 1975 and run by him in the States for a few years before he bought the Bertram "Copper Kettle" from Sandy Satullo. And Snap Shot became Jumpin' Jack in 1974. Aeromarine III is being restored in Norway (or Sweden!). I think that is the boat which became "I Like it Too" . And didn't Guilio de Angelis acquire the first Black Tornado, also run as Eraf? |

But what end has done Sabre Dance after having been of Glass? Yes all the boats of De Angelis had the name Eraf that was the acronym of Elio-Roberto-Andrea-Fabiana that they were its children. 6 were the Eraf: 3 Cigs.36' - 1 Cig.35' - 1 Eria Marine 38' - 1 CUV 38' |

Just saw a 1972 36' on eBay for sale. nice looking hull w/inboards? I don't have the link, maybe Black Tornado should have a look!:drink:
|
That 36 with Inboards is a very good friend of mine , he owns Nuwave marine in Deptford NJ and is also the top selling Merc engine dist on east coast . The boat was built for local devloper back in the day a guy named Skip Levitt who built post WWII developments in NJ and PA and then was sold to an Attorney . The boat was one of one built for offshore fishing with straight inboards and at one time had 440 Mopar engines which back then were the engines to have . It now has new Awgrip paint , new fuel tanks and a stunning custom built trailer with three torsion axles and brakes on all 4 wheels . Could be converted to IO power if so desired . If interested call Ken @ 609-364-1479

Yes that's the boat ! Please forgive I rode the short bus :drink:
|
Any pics of the cockpit to see the layout, would it be crazy to put a bracket on the transom with a pair of 300 verados? Is this a Cig that should be restored to original factory specs. for historic value?
|
I think it would be cool , one of a kind for sure . I like that idea better than straight inboards . This is a smokin deal for someone

No, that is the Cigarette 35' built in 1976 for De Angelis and that the Roman drove only in one or two races.

Info about Blond Offshore Race Boat
Hi,
I recently bought a 1970 Nova Marine 25 foot offshore boat. In tracing the past ownership on this boat I've determined that it belonged to Roger Hanks / Blond Offshore at one point. It looks like someone has a real collection of vintage race photos and I'm wondering if you might have one of my boat. I'm in the process of restoring the boat and getting it running again and trying to validate if it was actually a race boat. http://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._3258105_n.jpg This is a current Photo of the boat. You can see more pictures at: http://www.facebook.com/hotpuppy72#!...2&id=585094900 Please keep in mind that the boat is rough and I'm just getting started. There are a number of vintage race stickers inside the boat. and the pictures are hi-res so you can see them. Most of the numbers used to race under Blonde Offshore are on stickers on the inside of the cabin. Oh, and I apologize again for the appearance, I've had it a week and the engines are my first priority. |

From what I understand there are alot of radically different things about this boat compared to other boats like it. Including the sister serial number, which just happens to be in Houston. Running gear is substantially beefier than #122 (this is #123). Engines were new H/M 351W's in 1970 and were pulled, sent to LA and built there.
I originally thought the boat was too small to race, because everything used for Offshore seems to be 36'. However, I was talking to the fellow who owns 122 today and he was saying that in 1970 the boats were smaller. If there was a Blonde, that might explain this boat. Here is the starboard side of the cabin. http://hphotos-sjc1.fbcdn.net/hs487...._3192881_n.jpg In this picture (above) in the middle is a Roger C. Hanks oval sticker. That was my first clue that associated it with him. Port Side http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._5627438_n.jpg Looking forward from hatch: http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._4734225_n.jpg There seem to be 3 numbers on the stickers: 56, 773, and 779. Here is a clean shot of her lines and running gear. I have the boat suspended from a pair of frames I made so that I could refurb the trailer. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._2404918_n.jpg |
