I was fortunate enough to be one of the drivers to race with Jack Mckay; the owner and throttleman of "TABU".The boat was raced in A Class primarily in US Offshore in 1993,1994,1995 and 1996."TABU" won the USO high point championship in A Class in 1995.I have alot of great memories from racing that boat;the best being the 1994 Worlds in Key West where we raced 33 other boats in A-Class!We finished 9th overall. The 26ft Corsa is a great running hull with a real racing heritage.Others included "Oatey","Wild Card","Flashpoint","Sublaxator" which became "Freedom" and then "Radioactive";"Hogs Breath" which became "Mountain Dew" and then "Bounty Hunter".More recently "Xtras" became "Cotner Trailers"...which has been very successfull in Class 6 on the OPA circut. It would be great if someone purchased "TABU" and brought it back out to the race circut...it would be an ideal boat for Class 6!Is it for sale?

dmaxx3500 11-06-2009 12:01 AM

thanks,do you have any pics?

The 2nd Hogs Breath (cut down version last boat made)became Oatey, Total Laser Care and Revolution Marine.

last i knew Jack and Jim "retired" it(put a blower motor in it) and were ripping up GSB with it.

Like Al Hoffman(Armed and Dangerous), Jack was a tough racer...few could hang in the boat with those guys... :)

1HYPER1 11-06-2009 06:23 PM

I also had a 26 that raced under the name Bimini Boys,do you guys remember that one with the twin outboards, man what a fun boat that was.

Is this the same Tabu?? Has a # 3 drive.

Here's where it was in 06 or so:

Edgewater Md., on the South River, near Annapolis Maryland. Owner tried riggin it with a automotive diesel. Lost contact after he got it running, never heard how it did. Never saw it on the river. Not sure where it is now, His name was Tullio Celano I believe. I still have his e-mail address from then.

dmaxx3500 11-07-2009 12:14 PM

yep ,less diesel power now

fastdonzi 11-07-2009 06:54 PM

Is that drive a #3??? Or a #2???

dmaxx3500 11-07-2009 09:42 PM

#3,with a built tranny ,and everything to go racing

Cigster 11-08-2009 06:04 PM

I can't beleive someone put a diesel in that boat. So is it for sale again? You buying? That would be a great boat to see running in one of the Production Classes.

dmaxx3500 11-08-2009 07:17 PM

yes its mine,i took it in trade for my 35' cig mistress,

im looking to sell it,

yes it would be a great boat to race,

Cigster 11-09-2009 06:41 PM

Well you've got yourself a great boat with a very impressive history. Why are they always for sale when I can't buy??? I'm focused on becoming a daddy right now....but I can't help but asking...what's the number you're looking for? A buddy of mine owns another Corsa with a really wild race history and couldn't get a decent offer for it, so he's now shifted gears and is restoring it to race again (knowing this guy, he'll be much happier.....with his almost uncanny talent with peformance restorations and the boat's proven history he really can't go wrong). It's a tough market!

gofastrandy 12-12-2009 10:10 PM

1983 corsa "TABU"

SpeedDoc 12-22-2009 09:02 AM

I'm sure freeze frame has it on video....

tcelano 12-29-2009 01:50 PM

Yes, I was the owner of Tabu from 2004-2009. I actually bought it for the purpose of putting the diesel in, and got it to run about 55 mph with it. I gave it up due to lack of intercooling capacity and realizing how much it would cost at that point to fix that.

I also got married at that point, and decided I wanted a reliable boat, and not a science project, so I had a 600hp 540 built, and I ran the boat for the 2005-2009 seasons, about 40 or so hours easy, no racing or poker runs. With the power and setup the boat had, it would go 75 mph in fresh water at 5150 rpm. Full of fuel and two people onboard, it would run about 72. The fastest I ever had it was 77 on GPS with low fuel.

There is a 25 lb weight plate bolted in the nose. If you put bigger power in the boat, and want to spend more time running 60 mph or better, you could take that out. If you want to cruise 50's, leave it in there.

The drive was gone through by Skip at MRD in early 2005, and received new seals, 1.33 upper gears, and (1.5 overall), and a new cardan joint. With the prop that is on it, you'd have really nice package with a 750 that would turn 5600 rpm or so. It should run deep in the 80's with that. Beyond that, you'd be looking to upgrade the drive probably. Transmission was built by Mike at Harbor Marine in Everett, WA.

Tullio

The boat is for sale once again. It made its way all the way up to a small town in Iowa. The guy is asking a VERY cheap price for the racing history on this boat, only 10,000 dollars and is offering a supercharged big block chevy for an additional fee so if anybody is still interested its up for sale he doesn't have pics but he is e-mailing them to people i believe.

tcelano 07-09-2011 02:12 AM

Would be interesting to see some pics for nostalgia, especially with a blower motor in it. I haven't seen the boat since it left my driveway almost two years ago. The boat was a neat rig that looked a lot bigger than it was due to its narrow proportions. It ran really nice, but I always regret that I didn't have more power in it. If I had the boat again, I'd put a 750 or 800 in it. If it's still in good shape, it should make somebody a nice, economical poker runner.

Looking at a picture on my wall of "TABU" from the 1994 Key West Worlds...such a cool boat;would love to see it racing again!

Btrhd 05-24-2012 10:48 PM

Anyone know where this boat is? Heard it was derigged and for sale. Got a friend who's looking for the right project. Thanks.

Fast Shafts 05-24-2012 10:59 PM

"Tabu" is in Sarasota Florida, and owned by "DareDevil". De-rigged and for sale as a hull w/o engine, steering, tabs, or a trailer. I looked at it in March, the hull appeared to be in decent shape.

tcelano 05-25-2012 12:59 AM

I spoke with a guy last year sometime who was interested in buying it. It needed a new fuel tank. When I got the boat, the main tank started leaking (of course only after I got my new power in it and took it out for the first time).

Anyway, I put an ATL bladder in it, and used it for about 5 seasons. I think the ethanol did that thing in. A regular aluminum tank would have been cheaper, but I wasn't interested in tearing up the deck and two bulkheads at the time.
