Any info , specs or brochures floating around on the 1986 Merc 500 or 540 efi i/o pkgs that were used in the Open Class boats ?
Actually the 500s were used in APBA Open and the 540s in NPBA E Class .

Funny, the ad says it uses a no.3 but is pictured with a no.4

Anything else out there ?
I'd like to find wiring diagrams , parts books , manuals and anything else I can find .
The bellhousing tag is stamped 540 EFI Nov 1985 .
Thanks for reading this , perhaps some one will have something or know who to call .
My resto project is moving forward .

I'm still looking for any wiring diagrams , service/diagnostic and parts info on these EFI systems .
Some OSO a hole sold me spares a two years ago . He screwed me out of the manifolds though , threw everything in a ****ty box that broke in shipping losing some of it's contents and never provided me with the service books he claimed he had .
I'm putting these motors in my old Chris and anything would be of great help in getting these things up and running .

Have you tried Mel Riggs? Riggs Marine Eldorado, WI.

Good luck, cool project.

100 octane minimum in the ad. 12:1 amazing. 700+ hp. Cool...

Those computers do not work that great part throttle. I believe the only way you can change any of the tune up is by changing some of the resitors inside. I may have one distributor for that set up. You would be better off installing new electronics inside that big computer. Fast xfi would fit.

Interesting point on the part throttle operation . I've got two almost complete spare systems and the original ones ran great before I started the rebuild .
I do agree new electronics would be a step forward .

My drives are presently at Offshore In FLL getting rebuilt , but if I can find a couple of spares for decent price I'll bite .
I've been offered junk for stupid money so far , however there is a gentleman in upstate NY with a pair that may be worthwile .
It seems anyone with a spray can suddenly has a fresh pair lol .

Yesterday I spoke with Errol Lanier whom I had met in the late 80's . He is well and building an awesome line of small cats . He could not help , however he referred me to Mel Riggs @ Riggs Marine in Wisconsin as had OSO member Biggus ( Thank You ) So I did call him and he is checking .
I have motors assembled and almost dyno ready .
Here are a few more pics .
Anyone with anything ?
( shop manuals , wiring diagrams , diagnostic info )

Thanks , I think they helped us out way back when the Chris Cat was almost new and Jason sent me a couple of racing tapes .

Top Banana 10-31-2012 08:31 PM

Mel would be my first call too, but a very close second would be Dave Stiff at Innovation Marine in Sarasota, Fl.

I have a pair of those engines at Innovation now, just waiting for me to finish one of the restos I have underway.

BTW Dave was THE guy at MerCruiser back in the day and probably wrote the manuals you are looking for. Tell him I said hello! Good luck with your project.
