Looking for Leviathan/Boar Hog
3 Attachment(s)
Magnum built five 29-9 in 1973,at least one was an outboard version and was powered by four 150 HP Mercs. Boat was called Boar Hog and driven by John Ferradez in 1974,and then became Leviathan. Does any one have any history on this boat and does it still exist ?????? Photos attached ....Bud

Yes Boar Hog Exist. It's now in Atlanta Ga on Lake Lanier. She no longer has outboards. She has a pair of 900's with #5's. The guy who owns her completly customized her. You would not know she was a Magnum. He has the original bill of sale and photos of her when he started. It's defintaly Boar Hog.

Boar Hog Too
Looking through the files the following is evident.
Boar Hog (27ft Magnum) 1970-72 & 75 Leviathan (32ft Magnum) 1972 Boar Hog Too (30ft Magnum) 1973-75 I think the difference in lengths between Leviathan & Boar Hog Too (same boat) is journo error. In 1972 Miami - Key West, Leviathan came 7th,whilst Boar Hog came 8th. Leviathan - Hennnesey Cup 7th,Hennesey GP 8th,Miami -Nassau ret,Miami-Key West 7th. Boar Hog Too - Key West Finished (73),Bushmills 5th,Jockey Club 9th,Miami-Nassau 3rd,Hennesey GP 8th,Bahamas 500 Finished,Sam Griffith 4th (All 74),Miami-Nassau Finished,Bahamas 500 8th (All 75) Fernandez also used Boar Hog (27ft) in 75 South American Races. Please note the above info has been sourced from mags bought in England, and no doubt Black Tornado (Italy) will further more information if possible. |
29-9 research
Thanks for the great information...on the one in Georgia are pictures available,or can you put me in touch with the current owner. It is a shame that it was totally re done and not saved, only two were made.
Any thoughts where the remaining 30 footers is ...we received an e-mail that one is on Lake Lanier in Georgia. Bud |
Flying Fish, I have to go look for photos of various Boar Hog, and Thumpers (Leviathan even I was not aware of the existence of it) but I think I can agree with you.
That the Boar Hog Too is the former Leviathan is confirmed by the anomaly positions of the race numbers where the two 6 leaving space between them just for the 0 missing. |
Boar Hog Leviathan
Hey guys I am sure Boar hog became Leviathan per dates and H2O's info.Five 29-9's were built during 1973,and we do not know how many IO's and Outboard units were built. Only someone like Browine or other people who worked there would know, they also may know who they were built for.
I know #5 which I own was built for Jim Armington of Ohio, the outboard version was built for Ferrandez.according to some old notes from Browine and McCarthy also the following names have surfaced as potential owners of a 29-9: 1.Sonny from Wisconsin 2.Gil Lieber 3.Gardner Young of Nassau 4.Balestral 5. White Tornado I also have a picture were the Boar Hog was featured in a Magnun sales brochure.Any additional help would be great. Bud |

Bud If you speak the Boar Hog this was a Mag 27'(according to Flying Fish from his files)therefore could not become Leviathan. If you speak the Boar Hog Too this was the former Leviathan, as the photos you posted confirm. How at # 5 White Tornado if you are referring to those of Balestrieri they were a Mag.28' and a Bertram 32'. |
29-9's
Sorry for the confusion,I was referring to Boar Hog Two..the name came from a series of replies from a number of people,Brownie.Rich Powers and others who thought they might know the boat.We are fairly sure that Boar Hog Two is on Lake Lanier in Georgia, with twin (00's and # 5 drives, per one of the earlier e-mails. Other Magnums

OK,cat amongst the pigeons time.
Ignoring journalists errors, there are some other boats which may fall into this 29-9 catagory. Moni-Q - New 33ft for Tim Powell to drive in 1971 America cup races.(Looks a bit like Thumper Too). Hustler IV & V listed as 33ft (1971 & 1972) Nospons, listed as 32ft,but looks more like a Magnum 28. I have no pic of Boar Hog (27ft Magnum) to compare with Leviathan, but the 1972 Key West result mentioned in previous post dispels that. Where did 29-9 come from? New hull or Magnum 28 grown,or Magnum 35 reduced.Brownie to the rescue please. Then there was `Opeca`-J.Neuman (1968) and `Six Pac` J.Fernandez (1971) that were 35ft. So were there 23ft (Ultimatum),27ft,28ft,30ft,33ft & 35ft Magnums? |
Exhibit `A`

Boar Hog (1 or 2) became Leviathan???????
Why would Fernandez have Boar Hog Too prior to 72 KeyWest, sell it to Jackson as Leviathan (which raced all of 1972),then race it again as Boar Hog Too in 73-75. Nah,you havin` a laugh.See exhibit `A`. |

The IO 29-9
5 Attachment(s)
From what we were told the 29-9 was constructed to run in the under 30 ft class. There was one fitted with twins and was tester on Lake X by Don per Browine , Still hope for him to add his knowledge to this discussion. No decision was ever made on was this a lengthen from a 27/28 or cut down from a 32 ???.Attached is the vin # and some running shots. A post off-topic but someone tell me what's that cabin between the Slingshot and the Head Hunter at the start of the 1977 Worlds in Key West?

PACIFIER,a Monza.Maybe can just make out the name.
Lnyx & Muffet are 21ft Lynx hulls Marlin Cosmos although a cabin boat boat, doesn`t look like the name on side. |
1977 kw
I quote you Graham, for hull, size and name seem to be the Monza 28 'cabin Pacifier.
The only thing that left me puzzled in the first pic was the race number that in your precious list (and that Fuller has not revived more) read # 663 for a Pacifier of the unknow Savanders. |
Pacifier?
You ol devil, you know my lists better than me.
I thought Pacifier was a rogue entry for key west, but no.It ran in the Hurricane classic as No 663 27ft Monza. In the pic it looks bigger than headhunter which is 30ft,and boat No is 138,so maybe it is `Marlin Cosmos`.Putting my second set of bionic eyes in,which ain`t much better than the first, maybe it`s `MARLIN` on the side.Would you really have 4 up in a 27ft boat.Sounds like the South American had their friends along for the ride,as you do.A bit of `Black Tornado` logic my friend. |
Boar Hog
As a young man, back in the late 70's, I drove down to an armpit of a marina, on the Guyahoga River in Cleveland, Ohio...and bought a bunch of Mercury Twister 1 racing outboards, along with a couple pallets of BP lower-units, mid-sections, props, etc., from a guy named "Ben". If memory serves, Ben owned the marina. All this was sitting next to a silver/gray 32 Magnum ex-raceboat, with the name "Boar Hog" painted down the hullsides, that all these engines came off of. The boat looked to be the same boat, as in post #1, center photo. I know absolutely nothing else, regarding the Boar Hog.

Although I can not understand how you can "read" Marlin in your photo in spite of your eyes bionic. Besides, the only cabin cruiser entered the race according your files were precisely Nara Cabin Cruiser Open Class I and the famous Pira Pita in C.C. Open II. The drama in five acts by Flying Fish and Black Tornado ends in anonymity and without spectators. Accomplice the July 4. http://img686.imageshack.us/img686/8...ywest77.th.jpg Uploaded with ImageShack.us |

Need help from Brownie
5 Attachment(s)
OK, we need some help from someone who was around in 1973 at Magnum or raced against the 29-9's.which has a 8 ft. 4 inch beam.Don't know if it was cut down from a 32 or increased from a 27/28.
I will check with Jim Armington and hopefully Brownie,Rich Powers,or McCarthy might be of help. |
