Here is a sneak peek at the new book that is due out this fall:

BLUE WATER WARRIORS

The photo shown is of a 40 foot ....what? They were popular in the mid 70's and won some races in a commanding fashion.

So, who knows what brand of boat these were and who was the crewman on this boat that was also on The Cigarette when it won the Bahamas 500?

Advanced copies of the book can be seen at the Don Aronow Around Long Island Marathon on Sept 18th in Port Washington, NY.

Knocky House or Barry Cordingly !

Phil......your halfway there....it was Barry.

Now what kind of boat was this?

Also who was the owner of the boat?

Hint....famous name of owner who was fugitive later in the islands.

Good news Charlie.
Can you tell us some particulars of the book like composition, pages, pics and price?

For your trivial this is the answer:
Why Not - Gara 40' - Barry Cordingly-Tom Vesco-Paul Haggerty
Here in a shot of the first race as no name boat and without the jaws, in the Bahamas 500 race in 1974.

Marco....you nailed it.

We will know more in two weeks as the first pre production copies will be coming out then.

Size is 8 1/2 X 11 and we are around 70 pages at this point, with many pages with more than one photo.

A few more Gara pic's from back in the day......

The #27 was "Challenge", a 40' Gara, owned by Bob Esposito from Toms River. It only ran a couple of races-if I remember correctly.

You remember well,Charlie.
How h2oboater can confirm that was the first Gara 40' of Sandy Satullo a wooden prototype version of the fiberglass "Impossible Dream" of MacDonald, which was to debut at Kirby Classic on Lake Erie in 1973.
But just the day before the race during the test for the boat nearly sank for a hole in the hull, forcing Satullo back on his old Cigarette 36 '.
Ironically, the race was also won by the Gara 40' of Billy MacDonald.

Well then,

What original group or guy was the financier behind

The "Gara" boat company ?

Also,

What happened to the plug / mold ?

Did it get a mild re-design and take another

promenent name and stay a 40' ?

Or did it get re-tooled all together and become

multiple boats ?

Very interesting stuff we have here !!! lol
