my uncle had one back in the day with twin 400hp 454s and trs the boat ran low 70s with 330s maybe mid 60s they are well bilt boats

BOATMAN302 03-30-2011 11:36 AM

The one I just sold ran 90gps with 600 hp a side but had Kaamas on it. Nice boat gonna miss it.

mookster 03-30-2011 07:04 PM

do you have any pics those boats sound sweet

PatriYacht 03-31-2011 02:09 PM

55-60 with 330's. No way they would go over 70 with 400's. Those were heavy boats for their length.

I had a 1982 302 with 468 cu in with 420 hp and TRS drives and I run 3 blade bravo 25pitch props and the best it ran was 65 mph at 4600 rpm on gps. From that I went to 43 Scarab and now have a Cig 38 Flat deck. The formula is an awsome boat . Of the 3 offshores I have owned by far the best cabin and will run in 4 footers all day long. I must say I miss the boat.
I agree with Patri Yacht 400s will never see 70 mph the boat is at least 10,000 to 11,000 lbs.

ya mine with 330's with 700 plus hours is runnig 51 on gps now.

Awesome riding boat, very sea worthy. We re-rigged one that had KAAMAs....kept the kaamas...small blower motors probably abput 650 a side runs low 90s and is really stable

Glad you added that, a lot of people did not believe me when I said mine ran 90. Thats pretty good for a old turd. They believed me when I went by them though. Bruce

running stock 454's now with 174 blowers runng 25p 3 blades getting 66mph on gps

Kaama302 09-15-2012 09:18 AM

502 MAG MPI with kaamas the boat will do 75 - 77. Was in 6 to 8 footers last year coming home from cape and the boat preformed very well. Boat weighs about 8000lbs dry. One of the best rough water hulls that Formula has ever made.

Mookster, I think we spoke about your weight/speed concerns on the Formula thread year or two ago. If you are truly weighing in at 10,500, gosh that's very, very heavy. I believe I shared that with the first '79 302 SE I bought, they claimed in the fancy binder that it was around 7,000 dry. At the time, I had a Suburban so with the trailer, I was a little concerned about going over capacity. With with the boat empty, but wet with around 1/4 tank of fuel, I calculated it at the scales at around 7,500 lbs. The boat stock ran a solid 60-62 all day long, before building new motors which got me to the low 70's. Did you ever actually weigh your boat?

Formula website. Its in the archived brochure. I have also weighed the boat trailer and truck at a weigh station. Not sure how it would ever weigh that much unless it was swamped.
