Just got my first boat!

Hello all.
I really enjoy going through all the build/rebuild threads here and wanted to say hey and I am unable to post in the owners forum since I am a freeloader on the site.

Just bought my first boat this past weekend - a 1985 Chris Craft 210 Limited. 350 with Alpha Drive
Thought I'd share a picture and tell everyone thanks for all the reading material that keeps me from doing work!

I just run on a small lake in central Illinois but I love to read (dream) about the big boats.

Thanks everyone for the great welcome.
I have a good amount of cleaning to do but I think she is in good shape and not a bad price at 4200 including 2 tubes, numerous life jackets, covers, bimini, and decent stereo.
I don't think I got hurt too bad.

314joey: I go to Mill Creek near Marshall, and would like to go to shelbyville whenever possible. We just stay close to home if possible. (I live in Casey, IL)

Anyone have any pictures of their limited or scorpion? (which I have learned is nearly the same boat looks wise anyways)

Congrats on the purchase! It's definitely an addiction.

cash68 08-12-2011 10:26 AM

Exactly what I didn't want to do! Those things are ugly!

36Tango 08-12-2011 01:19 PM

Congrats to you! That is an awesome boat and you will have a blast with it. You will also have some challenges, but the folks that you meet and the time that you spend on the water will be well worth it.

That is one heck of a first boat, by the way!

This was after 3 garbage bags full of junk.

Boat has been setting out for 5 years.

cash68 08-17-2011 09:18 AM

Wooooo boy that thing is rough inside. Here's to hoping the floor is okay, otherwise... I'm not sure it's worth it.

aldrichg9 08-17-2011 09:51 AM

Wow that is rough!
Sad to see when someone lets a nice boat go to **** like that.
Looks like it is the exact boat I have - Hope you got it for a good price.

I was wondering what the engine cover looked like originally - Mine is solid white now after its been redone.

What condition is your engine in?
Do the floors feel soft at all?

Thank you for sharing!

BigBoater 08-17-2011 11:31 AM

That looks like a boat I would buy, just remember, a boat is hole in the water which one throughs money into, NOT an investment :) that should help keep you motivated :lolhit: even if the floors are shot, it can be repaired, I believe.....the best boats are sometimes the projects that are complete

svonmiller 08-17-2011 11:38 AM

Yeah, definitely a good first boat. Although boats are not investments, there are definitely boats that are a waste of money. You bought one that's not a waste of money. Chris Craft is worth the effort.

I bought my first boat in 1987. I've been boating ever since. And just like someone said - I just always want a bigger, faster one. Bought my first performance twin engine in 2007. I plan on upgrading to a Fountain 32 or 35 in 2014.

85CC210LTD 08-17-2011 01:59 PM

I paid $500 for the boat and trailer.

The propeller shaft was bent but I have already replaced it and gone through the rest of the outdrive. The engine runs great just has a small oil leak from a valve cover gasket and the thermostat is frozen shut...both easy fixes.

I have taken all the interior out and getting ready to remove the carpet. The floor feels very solid everywhere except right over the gas tank...is that normal? I'll get a good look at it after I remove the carpet and post the pics.

Almost forgot...got everthing working so we took it out on the river last Sunday to check it out. Ran great, only goes aroung 42 mph with a 3 blade 19 pitch prop...don't know if that is good or bad.

]I think my Qjet needs some adjustment but the top speed I have been able to make so far was 43mph

I could use the gage (instrument) cover...mine is cracked and maybe the panel behind the steering wheel...they drilled holes in it for more gages.

The round knob on the faucet is the pump. Pull up on it.

Are you going to keep us informed of your progress?
I think everyone around here loves pictures of boats no matter what they are.

Might be a good idea to start a tear down thread.
