If you could choose one old-school offshore boat to tackle the reported 30-40 foot seas coming with the hurricane, what would it be? I might be leaning toward Sprink's Formula 255, with its huge freeboard to prevent swamping. Would a 24-degree deadrise hull be favored or would a wider beam and shallower v-bottom be more advantageous because of its inherent stability?

I would need some Chap Stick for when I would have to kiss my ass good buy in those waves!

Irene is already THERE. You missing a digit on that 255. YOu mind as well try to stand up an a ping pong ball. May be a 2550, (255' ter) survive 30's-40's. :evilb:

There isn't one....unless it's a Submarine down a several hundred feet. Even then with the currents being all tossed around it would be dangerous.

I think the Navy even moves the big boats way out to sea when a Hurricane approaches Norfolk or Jax/Mayport.

They don't even try to run a Carrier or Destroyer any where near one of these storms.

Given all the choices though you would probably have about an even chance in an outboard hard bottom Zodiac that was self bailing...if you could stay in the eye:eek:
