Mercruiser sterndrive "clubfoot"
 

Anybody out there know anything about Mercury's sterndrive known as a clubfoot. The little I've been told is its a SS#3 or super speedmaster #3 drive. This drive doesn't reflect the sleekness of the other speedmasters I've seen through the years. But, I have to tell ya, this thing is big, it dwarfs a bravo and makes an alpha look like a little toy. I would like to know if this drive was built for speed like many of the other super speedmaster drives were. This thing looks like it belongs on a tugboat, not hanging off the back of a '27magnum. My boat had a big block chevy showing mercury thunderbolt 390 hp. Anybody out there know anything about this combination? Thanks,

----More knowledgeable guys will post but I think the "clubfoot" is the standard No. 3 drive. They were loosely designed for houseboats, hence the hefty dimensions. Then there is the No. 3 Speedmaster which has a more Merc. typical Speedmaster lower. I had a standard No. 3 on my 1971 Donzi 21GT with the low power 427 Chev/Merc package. I only had the boat about two years but it was super reliable. Bought it new! Boat ran around 62-3 at around 4200 or so RPM. No. 3s werent out long before TRS drives became available......Bill S

Is it Merc TR drive? Similar to a TRS but made to swing big props for hoseboat / workboat apps.
