? on large cockpit classic boats
Hello, was wondering about an old boat I knew and what other ones are out there like it. My first exposure to offshore was with a 377 Scarab in South Haven, MI called Blue Streak untill he repainted it similar to the miami vice theme. This 377 did not have the staggered engines so the cockpit was large like in the attached picture.
I am also aware of the 34' Scarab III that had an extended cockpit for additional seating. I remember seeing a Baja on ebay that had a large cockpit with 4 bolsters in it in front of the rear bench also. this winter is already planned out with the projects for my 272 LS Formula, but starting to think about the next project and I should go larger, thinking 31 up to 38. But I want the typical offshore boat with the +/-8' beam. Other than the two scarabs or CC + egg beaters, what is out there in the classic old shool fleet that I should watch for? I really like the look of the square windshields, but the Scarab III is a nice size boat also. Not opposed to modifying an older boat into a mid cabin setup also! Wife and I are foster parents so you never know how many kids we might have. Five from 1 to 12 are ours forever, but we can have extra at times. Nine right now, but that should be back to normal by next summer. To sell the wife on this, it has to have a bunch of room, not worried about overnighting. So, what is out there and what to watch for? Guess the 50 Meteor is the Ultimate condo boat in the Wellcraft family > http://www3.telus.net/spectrasonly/scarab%20meteor.jpg |
Nah, really looking for something smaller. Bigger than the 272 enough to make it "worth while" upgrading, but definately no bigger than a 377 Scarab. Those 50' meteor and 42 excalibers are HUGE!!! I have to be able to tow it.
Surprised there isn't more information on this. Like I have said before: "Wow, another new boat with a rear bench and two bolsters! amazing designs!" Oh-well, will keep watching to see if others are posted or what I see online. I know Baja had something other than the islander. |
A 32 Black Thunder. It has 2 bench seats behind the bolsters. I have had 8 people on mine. Its a bit old school its a 1991. We love it !!! There were a couple on yachtworld and powerboatlistings. Good luck
