i think its just a 7qt. if your puting a new one on you best to go with at least a 14qt gil marine

Were they cast or stamped steel. DId they have a trap door in 1987?

they were stamped steel no trap door but do have a windage tray . i have about 4 of em need 1 ???

if your running the boat hard in the ruff stuff you want to keep the oil in the bottom of the pan and seven more qts is a good thing. also with a gil pan it has a scrapper bilt into the baffle which keeps oil from winding around the crank and helps with windage .especially if your running over 5500 rpms.but if your not hard core a 7 qt pans fine but still recomend a cooler.

My oil pan on 88 420's had the trap door ... I reused them and went with a 2 qt oil filter wix racing 51734r

My Merc 400's have the `14 qt pans. I think ANY high performnce offshore boat should have them.
