she was a french boat with 7 mercury outboard , the owner was mr MEZZANOTI in 1988

how can you tell it's french? did it have hairy armpits?

Yes that is one of the first four Batten B4 engines built for the JJ 48 project. It is a "509" cubic inch motor. Note the absence of an external oil pump to the right (in the picture) of the front motor plate, in the original poster's photo. There were a total of twelve B4 engines built for the JJ 48 project. The other eight were "540" and external oil pump.

If anyone has any old pictures or video or articles about the JJ48, or these engines, would appreciate copies.

Here is a picture of B4 #10 from the JJ 48, exactly as it was lifted from the hull. It is one of the 540's. In the JJ 48 the B4's had conservative cams and single throttle bodies. Adding an extra body and better cams really wakes things up.

If anyone has old photos of the JJ 48, or even video, I'd be interested in talking to you about acquiring copies.
