Thanks,

I dont believe thats an excalibur in the picture, looks more like an early 80's superboat.

JETTDOGG 04-30-2013 04:06 PM

Nice looking hull
it looks like my 24 thats titled as a '73 eagle

merkfalc 04-30-2013 04:30 PM

I really like the way it looks but I can't find any information on it to see how they were built and if it's even worth that kind of money. Seems a bit high to me but I really don't know without knowing the construction.

Greatlaker 04-30-2013 08:07 PM

it looks a lot like a Bill Farmer Excalibur pre Wellcraft

By 1974 there were at lest 10 boat companies making this same hull. I have a 24' Cobra with twins with this hull. Even this west coast company [Panther] had them.

HTRDLNCN 04-30-2013 10:14 PM

Looks like a 24x7 Excalibur pre Wellcraft..
Wow, 455 Olds,Bronze propeller and a Volvo outdrive..
Never even heard of an Olds being used in anything except Jetboats.

merkfalc 05-01-2013 08:33 AM

I thought the 455 olds sounded a little odd, but the 27P bronze prop sounds pretty weird also. Seems like it would be way over propped.

Looks like the same boat to me. How do you like it? Run OK? What kind of setup do you have? The guy is willing to go down to $5k, think it's worth it?

JETTDOGG 05-03-2013 01:39 PM

WITH A 350 AND VOLVO AROUND 50-SHES A HEAVY BEAST -MY HOPE IS 60 WITH A 330 AND BRAVO 1
I'D BE CONCERNED WITH TRANSON -MINE WAS GONE WHEN I PULLED THE VOLVO -THATS 2K MIN UNLESS YOU DO IT YOURSELF AND WHETHER AN OLDS 455 CAN HOOK UP TO A BRAVO,ETC DOWN THE ROAD -MAYBE SOMEBODY ON HERE CAN SPEAK TO THAT-
I'D CRAWL ALL OVER THE ENGINE COMP. CHECKING -POKING WITH A KNIFE AROUND THE DRIVE HOLE,EXHAUST PORTS,MOTOR MOUNTS ETC IF YOU FIND ANY SOFT SPOTS, THERES GOING TO BE MORE. CHECK THE FLOOR AROUND THE SEATS TOO.
FIRE IT UP-GET A CHECK RIDE BEFORE YOU PAY -I HAD A GUY BUILD A MOTOR -SOUNDED GREAT ON THE TRAILER PUT IT IN THE WATER WOULDN'T GET THE BOAT ON PLANE :angry-smiley-038:
IF NO ROT I'D LOW BALL HIM 3500-4000 AND GO FROM THERE -EXPECTING A PROJECT -HELL HE'S DOWN 2K ALREADY -TRAILER AND ENGINE ARE PROBABLY WORTH 2-3K---EASIER TO GO UP THAN DOWN. HELL SHE MIGHT BE A RUNNER FOR A YEAR OR 2
JUST FOR A REALITY CHECK THIS IS WHAT I FOUND -I BOUGHT WITHOUT ADVICE

The Bronze prop was common in the early years as there were not a good supply of aftermarket Stainless props available. Folks would "hot rod" up a bronze prop for the Volvo drives. I sold a killer old Ron hill modified bronze prop that came with my Volvo drive.

The pitch could be due to the drive ratio.

I agree, the boat looks like an old, pre wellcraft, bill farmer excaliber.

Get the "hin" numbers if you want to be certain.

As for value, 3 to 5 depending on how badly rotted it is. It will have rot! It's just a matter of how much.

So long as you are asking for thoughts, I'd offer it would not be worth it to me. I'd snatch this (see below) up instead. You'll end up spending half as much over the long haul, it's running well now, and how nice is this for a vintage 70's 24x7? Still with good gelcoat no less. If I weren't hip deep in another project, I'd have grabbed this and just enjoyed it for 20 years.

Plus, if you wanted to move on, the Martini would sell quickly for about what you paid. Re-power that other one and you might get 30-50 cents back on the dollar if you tried to sell it.

FWIW,

-Mike

I decided to pass on the boat. Wouldn't send me any pictures or the HIN. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

That is my Dads old boat if titled a 73 eagle!!! please contact me with any info....I had given up on finding it andf bought a excal...will trade or buy straght out

Hang Time 27 12-07-2013 11:51 PM

might have to PM those guys for more info on this old thread. That bronze prop was about the right pitch - the old volvo ratio's were like 1.75 or 1.8 to one instead of 1.5 like the merc's. I've still got the bronze prop that came with my volvo on a 73 20' monza I had. I had to order a custom 26p prop for that drive from Mach - had a 470-500hp BB in front of it - and then they thought I was nuts when I wanted to upgrade to a 28p to keep my RPMs down to 5,600, LOL. Drive held up fine till I sold the boat. I had a 76 excal as well - it did not have HIN on it either.

Hello All,

Recently I purchased a 1979 26ft single 454 Offshore. The title says it is a Cobra, but the HIN starts with CBN, which is B&B Racing, bought out by Crusader. This boat has a very narrow beam, and a deep V, and greatly resembles a Martini. I did see that the owner of B&B Racing is Bill and Bob Bowers, who I think also owned Corsa. Can anyone help me find out what kind of boat I now own?!

The posting has Ofcourse disappeared after years. But I need to track down and see if this is the same boat that's been passed around his thread with so much speculation! Can anyone help?
