2nd on GlassDave. While you are doing the transom, I would give thought to replacing the engine tub with a stringer motormount setup. It would be stronger and lighter.

While i recommended Glassdave, seeing the work you have done yourself, the transome is easily within your grasp. Where are you in northern ohio?? If your not to far, I
d be more than happy to come over, have a look and give you some time and labor saving tips/ideas as I have done the same transome before...

As long as you think its safe and be easy on it. Truth be told it may make your life easier. The worse the transom is, the easier it is to do. Material wise its going to be under 500, probably under 4.

I have spoken with a few marine structural guys who say it should be safe...providing we go easy on it. Mine is just like yours was, dry at the top, wet at the bottom - stringers are dry as a bone which is a good sign and no major cracking anywhere at all

Nice project, I have a 78 250xl that I found that had been in heated storage for 20 years, do you have any of the windshield parts, I am looking for a starboard side vent wing
this is what mine looked like when I brought her home.
