Calling H20, what is this exactly? is it really a Ross Focht boat?

dereknkathy 02-23-2014 06:43 PM

not only will h2o know what it is, he probably rigged it at least once in it's life. 470 mercs? puhleease!!!

Why not call Mr. Focht himself? To me the beauty of buying an old unique boat is the story behind it. It's tough justifying spending more than a pretty penny restoring an old school boat if the man behind the boat or even worse, the boat itself, is not exceptional. Best of luck.

Back in 1976 Bud Drettman bought the old Wolverine Magnum race boat from Pete Smith. Drettman rebuilt & raced this Magnum as the M-888 Active 8 er. From that experience Drettman started the Active boat company with Ross & Larry Fotch in Algonac Michigan. Bud first started to build a 31' x 9' beam vee hull & raced the S-888,, they also built pleasure boats like this one on craigs list. Active would later build the World Championship Active cat hulls that later became the Image, & Express cats now owned by Ross Fotch.

Did you you get to hang out with Red Crane?
He's pretty much the coolest person there. Always will be.

Would you happen to know if Active 8 Er is the same boat that was later called Tapper. The one that totally blew apart in a NJ race.
