Electrical Problem

Im looking for some information if anyone can help. My problem is that ill be cruising on the water and then my boat just shuts off. Happens more when the boat goes from cruising to idle. ill dial back really slow but itll shut down before i can idle. We thought the issue could be a bad coil so we replaced it twice thats not the problem. We moved on to the ignition maybe there was a bad wire or connection. Thats not the problem because we by passed the ignition by going from the battery to it. When the boat shuts down it doesnt want to start. my mechanic seems to think that the box located on the exhaust that sends the signal to the coil needs to be replaced. Now i have no problem replacing this part but it is a 600 dollar piece and they have no way of saying this is definitely the problem. I dont want to go ahead with this and still have this issue. Does anyone have any insight on this problem? Do i go ahead with this box or can i check other things before we move forward?

Try this.

I had a similar issue with my Mercruiser. A good friend said he had the same issues a few years ago and he ended up opening up the male pins on the engine harness and never had the issue again.

If your mechanic can't diagnos the problem and wants to try replacing a 600 buck part that may not fix it... If it doesnt fix it why are you paying for his learning curve? find a better mechanic.
