Marshall...........What a kick it must be to see your Mag starfire documented beginnings some 35 years ago!

I love the name "The Dealer" especially in those days when it had a "two way meaning" the name blended very well in those days

Yes, Tommy Adams leased part of Cigarette back in 79. We were tourists and went to 188th St to check it out. We had a guided tour around Magnum, Signature and part of Cigarette. I remember spending a long time at Magnum because my father had owned one of the race 28's. We had never seen the Starfire boats and your boat was just being launched for a test run. I do remember that we all fell in love with your boat, it looked and sounded amazing, still does by the way!

I do not know who was on your boat when we took the photos, sorry.

After leaving Magnum we went down the road to see if we could get into Cigarette. No one was available to take us on a tour around Cigarette but the guys at Signature were very accomodating, not sure if it was Tommy himself that took us around but who ever it was, they also took us around parts of the Cigarette factory and sorted us out with loads of Cigarette apparel, which was very cool!

My understanding of the Signature is that the hull was taken from a Magnum 27 sport and a new deck was put on it........as you have seen in my previous post, the 38 was there as well at the back of the unit where Signature were working from.

Thanks Ratman

It is really cool, yes Skippy, in another picture Ratman posted before from the same visit you can see a white sport with a red heart on it which was hull # 389 the next one built after mine.

Yes Pete, I had the center position cut out of the bolster so you can walk thru. The grab handles had a section cut out too and powdercoated white, everything that is there now is original just modified.

Yup, he defiantly got a little grayer. That was a good 15 yrs ago. It was definitely an awesome experience buying that boat. Flew into Ft. Lauderdale. We landed and went straight to Martin Marine. We pulled in and quickly realized we were in cigarette heaven! Tried looking at them all but new it would have to wait till the next day. We quickly looked over the mistress the best we could. I tried not to get distracted knowingly the Ghost Runner was right next to us. Next day we did a full inspection and put in for a test ride. Ran out the cut int ocean. It was awesome experiencing those long big rollers. Totally different than the Great Lakes. We fell in love with the boat! Pops made the deal and we were off on the rest of our vacation. As proud new cigarette owners (of a 13 yr old boat) we hit 188th st. And our jaws hit the ground! We toured the cig factory with Neal as our guide. He really rolled out the red carpet and made it a special experience. Next we toured Bobby Moore's facility. To top the day off pops and I shared a two beers at Fort Apache. Had one at the bar and took the second to go. That led to a fun walk through the rack building. A lot has changed since then but I have always been grateful for being able to experience all that.... Especially with my Pops. We still talk about....

SkaterMike82 11-04-2014 08:12 AM

Thanks for sharing the great stories and videos of the offshore boats! I lived in Boca Raton from 84 till recently.
HERE IS A FUNNY STORY....
........... in the early 1990's A friend of mine was a forklift operator at Everglades Marina. I remember him telling me that he was forking an APACHE off the rack , when suddenly it slipped off the forks at 15ft high, and torpedoed luckily right into the water!!!
Wholy crap! not a scratch on it.... It just hammered into the water and was fine. Maybe took on a little water but no big deal considering.

I had no idea back then, the APACHE boats were going to be so loved and admired today.

in order to upload a pic directly from your pc you have to have one of the paid memberships. However you can host the pic on a photo-sharing website like flickr and the just paste the link to your post.

The original Everglades Marine (On the same site) burned to the ground in the mid-late 70s. My Dad and Uncle worked there in the early 70s when they were selling Wellcraft Novas My uncle sold them and my dad rigged them. from 73-75, in burnt after they left.

bwd 11-10-2015 04:35 AM

A buddy who worked for cable marine when that happened told me a disgruntled mechanic got drunk and set it. I don't know if that is true.

Oh ok......I only knew it just before it was replaced by the condo project.
