Hi, not many around. I was given the actual production numbers a few days ago but I want to verify again to be sure and accurate with my response. I have a Scorpion 38 Competition. It is Supercharged with 525 Mercury Racing motors and SSM #4 Drives. Scorpion makes very tough boats that are an absolute thrill to operate! ! I had the pleasure of talking with Julio (the original boat builder of Scorpion ) over the Christmas holiday and he said he named the company Scorpion because of his daughter Astrological sign.! ..pretty cool !

BUP 01-12-2015 07:32 PM

Very nice. Just asking did Active Thunder 32 start out basically from a 32 Scorpion. I thought I remembered hearing that many years ago and just never paid any attention about it. .

Also the last owner of Scorpion powerboats was Tommy Adams - correct / I know there was a story about his death or something. What happened.

kmusto322 01-12-2015 07:36 PM

They are one hell of a rough water boat.... I would like to get my hands on a 24 sooner or later

kmusto322 01-12-2015 07:41 PM

Xxxxxxx1 if I were to get ahold of Julio do you think he could give me some history on my boat?

SkaterMike82 01-12-2015 10:01 PM

Scorpion is one hell of a boat and amazing but amazing boat in the rough. Besides being a rough water boat, it's really fast for it's day and straight bottom. That is true in regards to him naming the company after his late daughter but that's not my position to talk about. Julio is one hell of a guy full of knowledge and loves talking about the 80's and his boats. He still has his all files of the boats he built. About two yrs ago he bought one of his original 32's and did a complete re-do of it. He was unstoppable in his class back in the day and had a 32 called "Chillout" that was unstoppable as well as "Unleashed. He also raced a lot in the Puerto Rico offshore circuit. He's a really good friend of mine and we do lots of boating here in Miami as he's always in the water with his 32 Scorpion center console which he build several yrs ago. He barely ever gets on OSO but he often on FB. If y'all were to PM him on FB I'm sure he would answer any questions in regards to Scorpion boats. As I mentioned before he loves the 80's and his boats. His FB name is "Julio el bombero" as he was a Fire fighter as well. If you own a Scorpion, you should be very proud as they are badass machine that can take on mother nature very well and fast.

In regard to Tommy Adams, I'm not sure about him owning Scorpion last as he was shot on i95 in his Porsche in 82 or 83 because he was wanted for something he wore around his neck that "people" were looking for. He was involved in to much $¥+* but that's another thread.

Stormrider 01-12-2015 10:08 PM

Pretty sure Tommy was involved w Signature, not Scorpion.
Kmusto322, get some pics posted of your dads 32.

PARASAIL941 01-12-2015 10:39 PM

Check out You Tube video under heading - Frank Marine Key West . You can see how they ran that boat why they kicked A$$ in A Class. 24 Scorpion .
I was from the same area and ran a B Class boat , so we would travel to the same races . Really a great group of people and fierce competitors !!!

BUP 01-12-2015 10:53 PM

You are correct as I always get them 2 mixed up. I had to do a search up here to double check and yes Signature boats for TA is correct. 2 boat brands that were never in our area or least I never seen either running around.

The Miami to New York record holder was an outboard boat.

That is not the Miami to New York boat. That was another one of his race boats. The Miami to New York boat was all white with triple Mercs outboards. It had a special made top for it. If I'm not mistaken the boats number was 717 and had the Miami Dade fire fighter towards the front of it along as his daughters name on the fairing and rear. I have a pic but I can't post here. He has pics of it on FB.

Yes that makes more sense. "unleashed" photo kinda made me wonder. I was told it was the 32 Scorpion ,as such was the record holder, I just was mistakenly sent this photo. That is such an awesome photo that all my sense of logic went out of the window!

That was me and Bruce Kreimeir in the pic of Unleashed. I worked with Julio in the mid 80's and ended up with the molds for the 21's and the 24's(the old Carerra molds). the 32' molds ended up at Condor and the 37' Mold is at a body shop - for sale for a $ 1000. The active thunder 36/37 came from the Scorpion 37, not the 32.

That bottom shot is Julio at the helm of a 38 Scorpion - the original 38' Pantera - that became the 38' Condor. Not to be confused with the 37' Scorpion "Diablo"

Did 'Unleashed' become 'Spirit of Naples'?

The last time I saw it she was on a lift in Tampa and the name was off her. Lost track after that,

I loved that boat. My only complaint was that the drives never held up to the power. Bruce was a great guy to race with. Jeff Roberts also. Miss them both.

Julio, Randy Sosa and Rene were the crew on the New York run,if my memory is correct. Wow had not seen the Super Q boat since back in the day (Sundays on the bay) Key Biscayne.

BUP 01-13-2015 07:57 PM

I remember that 24 Carrera and the 24 Scorpion. Carrera if I recall made very few 24's so how many 24's did Scorpion make ? Those 24 boats ran very well in rough water, it was hard to tell which was what manufacturer between the two at times running on the water.

Where are the Scorpion 24, 32 and 37 molds now ? What the difference between the 37 and the 38 Scorpion ? THX

I got the molds to the 24... sold them to some guys in Texas. The 32 went to Condor and the 37 is for sale in Miami at some body shop for a grand. The 38 Scorpion was the old 38 Pantera (Original El Boss) and the 37 was the newer, stretched 32 - the "Diablo"

BUP 01-13-2015 10:48 PM

Thanks for the reply. Condor is not in business - I remember they had the Invader molds (Rec Boats) from Texas as well. This was about 15 years ago. So the 32 mold are still at Condor ?

I have someone that might be interested in the 24 mold and I am in Texas to see if I can find it. He owns another boat company. Who would I get in touch with about the 32 mold in Florida and the 24 mold in Texas - thanks again.

I have not seen one boat nor heard of any 24's being built here in Texas.

MidOcean 01-14-2015 06:39 AM

My estimate is 4 37's. the most popular boat was the 32.

BUP - The 24 molds were not in great shape. The guy who bought them was in the trailer business. He'd never built boats before. I doubt if any were ever constructed. If I remember he was over by Dallas.

Yes xxxx. Julito named the company Scorpion but he had partners as well including Randy Sosa and the guys from "Cuban Jewelers". His Dad, Julio Sr. also worked in the shop and was in charge of purchasing/ parts...etc.

Back in the mid to late 80's I was a regular at Sundays on the Bay in my 454 magnum powered Velocity! It was always a cool place to go on saturday evening to check out all the high performance boats rafted up!

Scorpion,Midnight Express or Mirage who was the best? all top boats back in the day of local builders, man those were the days.

Use to go there as well back than when my old man had is 28 Cig. The hardware and women that were there was second to none. You use to see all the big hitters there. Those sure where the days but unfortunately after hurricane Andrew in 92 they never rebuilt it. Ever since than until today is still just empty land.

All three were different boats... different applications. Midnights were bullet proof... but weighed a ton. I have a 32 Mirage and I love the lines of this boat - but miss the Scorpion. While Julio and I share a love/ hate relationship, I have to admit he was one hell of a boat builder back in the day.

My guess - and it's a guess - around 50 to 60. This includes flat decks, Elegante' and Center console.

Also keep in mind the Avance and Tempest are identical hulls to the 32 Scorpion. Ralph Barca was a Scorpion partner and left to start Avance. He used a blank 32 and crafted new decks. GM Bobby Falacara left Scorpion with him. Bobby and I were best friends back in the day.
