Default 1969 Sea Ray Pachanga Restoration

Just joined the forum and thought I would share with everybody what I am working on. My brother and I picked up this Pachanga a couple years ago. When I got it, it was all original, powered by a 327 chevy (pretty rough shape) and a merc model II drive. Since then I have completely gutted the boat and am in the process of doing a new transom, stringers, and floor. It has been difficult to find time to work on the boat as I am a college student, but it is getting there. I am re-powering the boat with a low hour merc 5.0 mpi I got for a good deal. Also picked up a 1.50 bravo one drive that needs a few parts to be complete. I plan to build a nice small block for it eventually when I can afford it. The boat is staying as original as possible. Going to paint or gel coat it the same avocado color and redo the original interior. I am shooting for low 60s with this motor considering a baja outlaw 20 runs low 60s with a 5.0 mpi/alpha and this boat will be lighter. Not sure how the 1.50 bravo will run with this motor yet but we shall see. Enjoy the pictures.

This is where the boat sits currently. It has been quite the learning experience but it is coming along

Very nice project boat. So much history with Sea Ray. I know they're not exactly the lifeblood of OSO but we love ALL powerboats and they've been a massive contributor to powerboating worldwide. Great to see this one saved and I'm following the resto.

Thank you for posting and welcome!

I bought a 1970 Pachanga in 1975 owned it for 9 years. In those 9 years I had engines ranging from the stock 327 mercruiser 225 hp to a 6-71 blown 400 ci Chevy small bock, twin turbo small block Chevy, a 454 chevy, last but not least a aluminum headed L-88 427 chevy. Believe it or not the old number 2 Merc drive held up.

Thanks guys! I will be sure to post some pictures as I make some progress. I had to do away with the merc 2 drive. Every part is NLA but mine was in pretty good shape when I pulled it. I have a folder of reciepts and a factory brochure from when the boat was new. Ill have to post some pictures.

are you talking about the black one in the pictures? I tracked down an original sea ray wood grain wheel off a 1970 srv I saw in a boat salvage yard so that is the wheel i am going to use.
