You can tell a KAAM boat by the weird transom shelf behind the engines.

Katanna 02-08-2017 02:37 PM

I like the transom tie down...

Pismo10 02-08-2017 06:38 PM

Please tell us more. What year? what are those engines now? How are the Kaamas holding up? what speeds? Transom still dry?
Thanks

Sweet time capsule!!!

I'CE 02-08-2017 08:32 PM

I see you have short and long hub wheels on the table, what is your intention?

I don't have any weird shelf. Might just be something with that model boat?

Formula did that ... How RU

Fine thanks. Mine is a Formula also. Has the same transom as all the other 357s (inside and out). Even had a silent thunder on it. Not sure if the silent thunder was actually original, but it fit just fine.

I'CE 02-08-2017 11:16 PM

Right, so no shelf on yours? My other friends 302 had it. seemed to trap water, actually was in the way when worked on an H style trans to drive U joint . so be it

Correct, no shelf. Might be a 302 thing.

Yup it is a 302 thing! Nothing like that in my 311

cyrus77 02-09-2017 04:56 PM

Here is my old 87 357 SR-1 KAAMA boat.

I still have a few parts to move

PG-13 02-09-2017 09:44 PM

cyrus77 Why did you get rid of the 357?

tommymonza 02-09-2017 09:53 PM

What Kaama motors are those! The 425s or the 375s.?

bck 02-10-2017 05:29 AM

I believe that's the "good" exhaust that came on the higher output engines.

TruxtonFox 02-10-2017 08:09 AM

Just outta curiosity, how well do these manifolds flow?

tommymonza 02-11-2017 12:19 AM

The manifolds are rebranded Gil's labeled Kaama on the 425s.

28cigarettess 02-11-2017 08:21 AM

They sure look like p 1000s to me

offshore2 02-11-2017 08:43 AM

The P-1000 exhaust, and the breathers on the valve covers would indicate, they are the 425's stage-2 motors. Which means they had a good three angle valve job, and probably dynoed around 440HP.

bck 02-11-2017 10:15 AM

Offfshore2, did the Kaama engines ever use the good bow tie blocks? My Kaamas, which came from Innovation Marine seemed to be pretty original right down to the Firepower ignition but had the Chevy bow tie race blocks. Could these have been original or were they likely upgraded during a rebuild?

Dan might know that @ Archer Marine

offshore2 02-12-2017 08:54 AM

On second thought, all Kaama 425's had valve cover breathers. A Kaama decal on the breathers would indicate a stage-2 motor.
Originally Kaama did not want to get into the engine business. They only wanted to sell drives. Boat builders didn't want just drives. They wanted a complete engine/drive package. So Kaama experimented with different engine builders until they settled with Hardin Marine. So Innovation Marine did build some motors for Kaama.

Offshore2 knows about them and he's already posting in the thread. Just curious, don't really need to know.

prostock 650 02-12-2017 02:10 PM

So the Kaama manifolds and tails are a totally dry pipe? I did not know that

CDShack 02-13-2017 10:48 AM

Mine were originally Innovation. 1984.

Mine were 86. I've always wondered if the bow tie blocks were original or if the blocks were replaced. All the other accessories were original.

tommymonza 02-13-2017 11:07 AM

Yea I redid a 1985 SR1 that sunk in 86. Had 425s that were built at Innovation.don't remember the tailpipes being dry though

Dry to the end of the long straight pipe/tip only,

TruxtonFox 02-13-2017 11:53 AM

Thinking in terms of cam choice with these, pretty well a dry pipe with no worries of reversion
