I recently bought a 71 or 72 formula 177 runabout , they only built the boat one year does anyone know any history on this hull ? Murray

Formula lists all their brocures and I don't see a 177 listed in 1971, only a 1700 17' foot model.

Murray, Sounds like a very interesting boat! I am interested in know more about your boat and would like to see some photos.

It turns out that I bought a boat bone yard, 1972 Formula 190 and the 190 and 177 model was only built 1 year. I contacted Formula and they could not give me any help but I was fortunate to locate a 1972 Formula brochure and gave a copy to Formula so they could post on their website. It appears that 1972 was a transitional year at Formula and all the models after 1972 had a newly redesigned look.

As far as, your hull id number, 1972 was the last year before the mandated HIN numbers started and they were all over the board and not a uniform process. My 1972 Formula 190 has a hull Id # F191226. I have not had much luck finding an early employee of Formula that could decipher the number.

What is the condition of your boat and what are your plans?

I have started replacing the transom and will eventually move to the stringers. My boat sat in the weather for 30 years and was picked almost clean. The good news was that most of the important parts were not removed and I have enough to put it back together again. My boat came with a Mercruiser 888, but everything except a few misc. parts were left and I have since bought a 1973 SeaRay
with a Mercruiser 888 that I plan to use as the donor boat to rebuild the Formula 190 back to an accurately reconstructed boat.

I have located many photos of the 1972 Formula 190's around the internet and I believe a few of the photos might actually be of a Formula 177. If you are interested in any of my research, please let me know and I will be happy you provide.

my very first boat was a 73-i think-17 foot formula. 250 chevy six. bad drive and trailer. I bought this little 4 banger 16 foot speedboat for the trailer and drive. gave away the hull. IT WAS A F***ING DONZI SWEET 16!!! I didn't realize till many years later. if I could just have held on to it...and maybe my 65 GTO convert and maybe my 68 Firebird conv... Oh well...
