need help determining how much a boat is worth
 

can someone point me in the direction of how to figure out how much our 1979 hammond (1979 GOLD HAMMOND) is worth?

we just got a second opinion on the engine and it needs a rebuild, so we're looking to sell.

I am sorry. you have 2 choices. repair the engine or let it go. older boats are worth less than the value of their engines, drives and trailers. there are no collector item boats, except a few early Donzi's, some Cigarettes and maybe my old Pantera. put it on craigslist. maybe someone has that engine in an otherwise junk boat and he may want it. or find someone willing to repair that engine. or find a junk boat with that engine in it, which won't be easy.

Gotta agree with the above. Sadly, old boats are like old cars only worse. There are very few real collectors items or true classics. It costs a lot more to restore an old boat than it will ever be worth.

We all lose money when selling boats, that's just the way it is. Cut your losses quickly before investing more into her.

Obviously you know how much you paid for it. Did you buy it hoping to flip it and make some money, or as a keeper ?
If you are patient, and wanting to possibly wait for that one guy or gal that has to have such a rare find, you might break even.
Sometimes rare does not mean more valuable.

They have a large boat and bought it as a runabout. Previous seller hid engine issue, if my guess is correct. That is why my advice is bite the bullet and fix it. Dump it for 500 and spend 3k on another boat, they can get bit the same way. There is little market for a running 3.7 merc engine. He will be the only buyer in his area this winter for any that go up for sale.
