The screens were in the upper section of the pickups. The pickups are now in the bottom of the tank. They broke off at the very top. What you're seeing is the screens.

common problem. I even see the fuel pick up tube that has a rubber fuel hose attached for an extender that has a screen in it. The rubber fuel hose falls off and or comes apart, When the fuel level goes bellow 3/8 of a tank it sucks air. Also seen the rubber fuel hose gum all up as well. Another reason to test with a remote fuel tank and own that set up.

I've been fighting fuel related issues on my 78 Nova 250. I removed the pick ups and looked at them but never ran a wire thru them. I know what I'm doing this weekend. I have been driving my self crazy chasing a lack of rpm for 2 yrs. 4000rpm and 50 to 53 mph.

I mentioned this in another thread. 88 Wellcraft this summer....removed fuel sender - float was cork. Drained all the fuel so I could look at fuel tank and found piece of the cork wedged under the fuel pick up inlet. Who would have figured.

Testing the fuel tank side of things. ie the fuel pick up - anti siphon valve - connections at the tank. One can check vacuum hg s coming out of the fuel line by hooking up a vacuum tester inline and running the engine .

Or take a fuel line with a primer bulb exactly like what outboard boats use. Unhook your fuel line at the gas tank and install your new fuel / primer bulb fuel line. get a clear jar - use the primer bulb to siphon the gas into that clear jar - this also will show the condition of your fuel and if any water present. You will know if the fuel flow is restricted or even a broken off fuel pick up tube by doing this testing as well.

Why the damage to the pickups? Ethanol? Mine are 21 years old and look cherry.
