had a 1998 29 fever with single 502. With any gas and more than 2 people, the thing BARELY got on plane, way under powered. Once it got going it was pretty fast, high 60's. Always felt like the boat was built light for speed and therefore didn't ride that good in any sort of chop. It was used on a fresh water lake in NJ, would never buy it again. Sold after 3 seasons. A friend of mine had a 29 with a 525EFI, he was probably over propped slightly trying to get the MPH. He would have to pin the throttle to the dash for 1/4 mile to get on plane and broke drives every year. I believe he was running a 28" B1 and the boat ran high 70's

I went back and forth with this and really wanted a single engine 29 but after looking at prices I decided to keep my donzi zx22 for a few more seasons and find a 35 with twins. Everyone seems to have the same opinion about getting on plane with a single 29

Great thread! Like the OP I had always thought a single engine 29 fountain would be great for me. Glad to know they struggle to get on plane.
