Old moulds.
 

What happened to the old moulds such as the 80s Offshore’s.
Sarasota Scarab moulds I.e 377/ 38KV
Excalibur 40 hawk etc

curious to know !

Most were crushed. A local guy has the 302 moulds. The realtor who worked the sale of the Wellcraft property on 15th street used to own a resto shop called Boathaus, he says he knows some of the 38 moulds are still around but unaware of their condition.

I have all of the original the Team Scarab molds 26 - 46

I think he’s referring to the Larry Smith Scarabs.

i thought the Ls were sometimes simply laid by LS in the same mold instead of a Mass produced type of chop gun type of tool ... i may be wrong !

Larry had his own set of molds. Wellcraft built there own after Larry would send them a plug from his mold . and then they designed there own deck.

The Scarab 3 was always a favorite of mine. I love the styling. A new modern one would be so cool!

all the original scarab hull designs were aronow derivative copies. magnum & cigarette bottoms. everyone was doing it.

I know the 38 came from the 35 Cigarette but did the 30 scarab come from the 27 Magnum ?

Check your facts Larry's bottoms were totally different than Cigarette thats why DOn had to build a 37 was to go after Larry's boats that were beating his 35s

Who designed the 38 Scarab ?

Scarab, IMO was such an iconic name/brand. Its sad that it disappeared. I remember going to a boat show in the early 90s and looking at the new Wellcraft Nova and 29' Scarab. Loved the lines

If anyone wants to order a flawless new Scarab 38, Team Archer is the place.....

Also Larry Smith was one of if not the first to incorporate steps, different layups with kevlar/coaring, and also vacuum bagging techniques in to these boats.

Is there just one version of the 38 hull? For instance the lower bustle on the short lived Scarab 400 is bolted on below the rub rail but the deck is one piece.
The raised deck and forward helm position gives it totally different appearance but the hull looks similar.

It's the same hull as the regular 38
