|
Probably same boat, the info he has is the same you mentioned. I've been talking to him for about a year....quite a story that goes with it....

Looked on Magnum Marine website and the history kind of matches the story I've got on the boat as a cigarette clone. Definitely has the MM lines to it. The Phantom Boats website doesn't show anyone named Cesar Olivero as shown on the business card. Maybe Will Smith was the boat guy behind them or took it over 30 yrs ago.

sweet boat.

Looks a lot like a 27 Excalibur flat deck.
|
Fired it up Saturday morning. Working on getting a few things cleaned up and hope to drop it in the water Tue or Wed weather permitting.

That’s cool, do you have a link for the magnum website?
Hoping to get mine in the water in the next week or two |
Could you send some up close pictures of the windshield I like the way it looks and wanna do that to mine

Phantom Windshield
Here ya go! Just put $100 of fuel in it and will drop it the water today if my shipmate shows up. Too windy to go it alone today with a "new" boat.

Yes it does! had a crowd gather at the gas station today putting fuel in it.
Contemplating where my ID numbers are going to go. The Baja has them on the side of the cockpit area and looks pretty good, but I might want that for a Phantom 250 sign... The burgandy stripe is at the top of the hull so I would have to do white stickers on top of that, or go black and below the stripes. Engine hatch is all manual, no electric lift. Not worried about lifting it, but there's also no latch to keep it closed when we launch it off a 4 footer out in the lake. Looked at paint colors today to try and match the Burgandy. Thinking about doing the "hood scoop" with the burgandy and black stripe, then carry it back to the engine hatch. Digging the clean white tho. H |

H I like the white with the stripes on urs a lot, kinda wish mine was all white with a stripe or two im not a super big fan of the orange on the boat |

Neat classic boats. The Phantom is without question a Magnum 25 Sport splash. One of the greatest classic hull designs there was. Looking at the business card my wild guess is that it
was laid up pretty heavily, probably by some Puerto Rican or Cuban- Americans, who really knew what they were doing. Love everything about it, even the color scheme is unique enough, period-correct, and timeless. Anybody that will see this one go by, won't forget it, and that's kind of cool. Many boats in this color scheme were sponsored by Gulf Oil Motorsports back in the day. I dig it! https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...44eb69ebd9.jpg |
It’s definitely a good looking boat imo, and yeah that’s what I kinda thought when doing a little research on them, the bottom looks identical to a 25 mag, and as far as the paint it’s been sprayed in the last 10 years I’d imagine.. cause there’s parts where the paints chipped and it shows it’s original color, which seems like a light blue, especially under the exhaust tips I found light blue.
also in the bilge and parts in the front of the boat being light blue. I wish there was more info of these specific boats and pictures of them from back in the day, I was told buy the guy that knew the owner personally of the phantom company that they only made 4-5 26 phantoms in total and same amounts for the 31 phantoms so there definitely very rare and not many people know what they are |
also in replies to being layed up heavy, the boat is definitely well built, boat is rock solid can’t find a spot soft in it, only glass work I had to do was replace the wood in the center part of floor that removes to access the fuel tank,
I did notice when I had it out last season the outdrive seems like it is buried in the water. no matter how much I trim up didn’t seem to matter. But she did ride like a Cadillac 😂 about the nicest riding boat I’ve been in a while so I think over the winter I’m going to glass up the hole and raise x dimension up and cut hole for bravo which I think will help out a lot being that it’s lightening the boat up and getting the drive higher up outta the water so that should give me at least 5-6 mph if not more |
I like the blacked out windshield, there is/was a bit of orange there....
Yes, worked out a deal on the boat. Been talking to PO for about a year and he was emotionally attached to the boat. But the Webbcraft is down for engine rebuilds so was hoping to get this for the summer and go from there. He had quite a story on the boat, as some of the boats that came from Miami in that era, but that's for another time.... Main thing is there are some automotive parts on the boat that need to get swapped out and getting safety systems cleaned up before we run it too much. H |
That’s awesome glad you got it and hope you have fun with her, definitely a unique boat.
also did you get the orange cigarette jacket from don arrnow he had? With the boat loll |
No jacket, just an old cigarette butt....
|
Ohh so he must’ve kept it loll did he tell you about it ?
|
Heard the whole story and gave me a copy of the write up in local paper.
|
That’s sick!
|
well, tried to post this 3 times now...
Test ride last week was underwhelming. Made it back to the dock. Floats like a brick at no wake speeds. hyd steering seemed very loose. Took forever to get on plane. quicksilver 23p props finally up/down/up on tabs to get up on plane. starboard motor over 200 on temp so backed things down. could get back on plane again, just bogged things down, port drive slipped trying so backed it all down again. idled back to dock. |
So slipping tranny?
|
Before I call it a slipping TRS I'm going to do some homework on the TRS then warm it up again and check fluid levels. If I can do a pressure test Ill try that too.
