I love the Active Thunders. I think the Cobalt thing is similar to any other brand loyalty. For me, the best experience I've ever had buying new cars or boats, was the day I picked up my Cobalt 23LS. The dealers and Cobalt itself will do anything to please you, and the fit and finish of their boats is remarkable. This is not a slam to any oher brands, it's just my observation and first hand experience with Cobalt.

I'm familiar with Lake Michigan, as I've boated there my entire life. I got caught in some BIG seas around Washington Island and I know all about the holes in the water. I think the weight of the 343, combined with the 24.5* deadrise makes this the perfect boat for me. I want to be able to blast along at 80....but I'm not willing to sacrifice comfort just to be able to run 90 or 100 for short periods.

The base to any of my posts are just to make sure folks don't get too fixed with their brand loyalty blinders when purchasing their next boat. There are lots of brands of boats with lots of plusses for different people, hence why I brought up the Donzi and the Powerquest. Neither of these are going to be 90mph boats even with 525EFIs.

I think the Cobalt 360 could be my Dad's next boat. Have they ever built one with 525EFIs? :D

exactly..... thats why people should keep an open mind when looking at the 343 it surprises alot of people (see post 42 above)
Remember the mind works like a parachute - better when its open

Dry weight given by every boat manufacturer is without fuel , oil in the engines and no water in the water tank . A boat this size can easily weigh an extra 2000 pounds loaded. The 343 as you can see in the picture has a very high X dimension , hence the decent numbers on this luxo boat .Can't see why a couple of 600's couldn't make it faster . No one knows here what the max hull speed really is with the 343 .
BTW , it is 10.200 with gasoline engines and 11.750 with Yanmar diesels !
Add your fuel , generator , water , keg of beer etc....., who knows what it will weigh ?

stainless 12-10-2007 12:57 PM

i called cobalt about the weight and they stated the weight was 11565 not 10200. i then weighed the trailer -got an empty weight- then weighed the boat plus the trailer and got a new weight - i subtracted out the weight for the trailer, amt of fuel on board and got the final weight of 11565 lbs for the boat itself there was no other weight on the boat at the time ... all the beer kegs had been removed
:D
ps this boat has the speed top which has to weigh at least 250 lbs and no generator/heat or a/c it also has 525's with xr drives

Why are you selling yours ? It seems they drop their value fast , due to be unknown for most . The ones with 525's and XR drives were selling in the 300's new two years ago , and there's one in the Seattle area for pretty cheap too .It's a win situation for the used boat buyer though IMO .

ive raced skaters for years (since 92) and am currently looking at either a 36 skater or a 38 doug wright ...once you go cat you never go back
