Cobalt XV-200

I'm looking for a Cobalt XV-200 (16 foot) or XV-500 (18ft). Does anyone on here have one or know where one is located? Cobalt did these boats in the late 60s and early 70s, and they are basically knock offs of the Donzi sweet 16. I've only seen a few in my lifetime and there was probably less then 50-100 ever built as I believe Donzi promtly sued over the design. My dad is a Cobalt nut, and would really like to find one. If any one has one or even knows of one, let me know. Thanks.

I didn't realize one boat mfgr could go after another for copying a design. I wonder why more of the companies that splash others designs dont get taken to court ???:readinghelp:

Hey Nick,

I found a project XV-200 in a warehouse in KC this past winter. PM me your email address and I'll send you some pics & info. The seller knew what he had and was rather proud of it even though it needed a fair amount of restoration work to make it right.

this is two weeks ago, boat is a blast but i will sell for one reason, i am 6'4 and 275 lbs therefore look like a giant sitting in it.... interior is perfect still has shag carpet, original date stamped naugahyde cover, travel cover, Rollco trailer, bias ply original spare. like i said boat was used winterized and stored for almost 25 years in a heated garage under two covers

bigandy 09-02-2008 07:21 PM

the ford date codes on the motor are 1968, the vin says the boat is a 70 model made in 69 and the interior and covers are alll stamped naugahyde 1969 i will go take some motor pics tonight. was fixing to take it to tahoe to consign it out there, wanted to run it on that cold water once and then get my money. local dealer wants to store it for me on showroom but doesnt want to buy it and i was contacted 3 years ago by a dealer in south florida that wanted it but i proved to be the dummer person in that transaction cause i said not for sale at any price......

bigandy,
That is sweet! That might be the nicest orginal in existence. I could understand not wanting to sell it, but if you have a change of heart my dad would be seriously interested. There is only one color for a boat and that's yellow :D. Your boat would have been built in Chanute, KS before they moved the factory to Neodesha in 71. The owner of Cobalt has a red one that he did a few years ago with a 350 and bravo 1. I believe it's a 68. Cool little boats. Please post the engine pics if you find them. Thanks nick.
