Why so slow?

The Concept website states that the 27' sport model max power is 350? Why? Twin 175s would be pokey on this boat right? 50s max? I need to go smaller for my next boat and want eggbeaters too since I'm done crawling around in a bilge, but I wouldn't buy a 27 that was that slow. Opinions?

That has Got to be wrong, maybe they meant twin 350's??

Here it is from the website:

"Max Outboard Rating..............350 HP" I take that as maximum total, not maximum twin rating, maybe I'm missing something.

Seriously? I couldn't see buying a sport boat like this and getting passed by a Grady...what's the point LOL?

rchevelle71 07-09-2010 09:12 PM

I agree, just had to look it up after you said something

Pantera24 07-09-2010 11:04 PM

It's a single engine rating...there are a few that have been a few made with twins that exceed the 350hp ... call Luis Avila the owner at Concept directly and he will help you out.

Good to hear. Twin 250s on that would be fun

joeya 07-10-2010 06:08 PM

Yes we can build the boat with twim motor application.

I've been thinking about doing this for a while... Any older 27s been rigged with twins? How fast?

joeya 10-20-2010 11:02 AM

with twin 225 optimax roughly 62-65

But it will almost cost as much as a 30. And, remember the boat is really a 25 with 2' of bracket.

You're right...a 25 won't be so good in my waters.

Hey Indy-
I'm not sure what you're budget is but there are a lot of good options out there.
I'm up in your area, Rye NY, frequently, and from what I've seen a Fountain 31 would be a good option as well as a Scarab 302. Both good performers that can do double duty as fishing/family boats.
My .02

No budget right now...but when that happens I'll be prepared LOL!! I'd like to stay under 30 so I can have it rack stored in Norwalk. Did the trailer thing with my 33 PP and I'm done with that...back to the rack! I've looked at some of the conventional CCs but those are slow and few have 24 degree bottoms.

Waddya having built?

marylandmark 10-22-2010 10:19 PM

27 w/250EFI = 61
27 w/300XS = 65

Twins could be put on it but can't think of a single reason why that would be a good idea. Safety? One could get a sat phone and ERIB much cheaper. Speed? Never overcome the weight difference. Money? Double the cost of power, rigging, etc for twins over a single (duh... LOL!). Look cool? Look cooler with the extra $$ in your pocket.

Lucky Dog III 10-24-2010 07:45 PM

I'm going with Yellowfin for the next boat.

Awesome boats, 2 different target customers.

Lucky Dog III 10-29-2010 12:25 PM

Very much so. I plan on hanging on to this one for a while so quality and service is very important.
