I had the 1.8 gallons and changed them out to the 3 gallons. I carry 2 extra gallons on board as well. It may seems like a lot but kind of one of those things you can never have too much of. I keep mine in a floor compartment at the transom, lot less chance of bouncing around than the bow.

I have around 20 gallons in the barn as well, may be worth more than I paid for it with todays prices!!

where is the best (cheapest) place to buy the Opti oil? I am soon to be the proud owner of some 06 225's,

Congrats!!

West Marine has 2 stroke oill for around $30/gallon but it goes on sale for around $13/gallon 1-2 times a year. Buy a 1-1.5 seasons worth when it does.

I knew better but we were on a week long trip and I was out of storage space.

Stock piling it as a great idea too. I run Pennzoil 100% synthetic that Walmart some times carries for about $30. per.
I'll have to watch for the West Marine sales.

I do Agree that there is no way your getting a 3 gallon oil tank under the cowling, but again, I think he may have meant to say that the in boat oil tank is 3 gallons, I consider a 3 gallon tank as quite a bit of oil, especially if your using injection, and on an opti, that would last a while.

Yes you are correct, the Trim Pump is just under the Cowling on the Engine mounting bracket, and there is no way to fit a 3gal under the Cowling, it is external, but there is a small, like a 1 pt oil tank on the motor that is fed from the 3gal external tank with vacuum pressure from the motor.

And yes it takes about 150gal of fuel to go through the 3gal of oil, depending on the rpm's. The fuel economy on these motors is amazing compared to my older EFI.
Sorry for the confusion
:)

My boat holds 212 gallons so the 3 gallons are nice!

Ditto on the EFI's! I had an '04 Concept 30 CC with 225 EFI's and they ate through fuel and oil but were bullet proof as well.

i was told only to use Merc DFI oil for Optis?

MM, How does the 32 compare to your 30? I just bought a 30 w/ 225 optis, I needed to have a small cabin for my little guy, otherwise I would have loved a 32.
