Concept 27 PR repower
I have a 2005 27 pr powered by twin 2005 merc 150 EFI.
It gave me a top speed of around 52 MPH. It stayed in the boat shed from 2010 until may of 2012, then a friend took it for a weekend fishing trip. on his way back to the marina the port engine blew a piston. Mechanic gave me a quote of around $5K to fix. for that same price i saw a couple of 2003 merc 200's. So obviously i went for more power. just tested the boat with the 200's. Gave me a top speed of 60 Mph at 5800 RPM. Only downfall was that as soon as i go over 52 MPH the bow starts jumping left and right. its very light at the bow. thinking of adding some extra weight to stabilize it. any thoughts? do u guys think that a little extra weight will work? Thnx |
Do you have trim tabs? Are you using the same props from previous? There are a lot of handling tuning variables that can be adjusted before you talk about adding weight.
|
yes i tried to stabilize with the trim tabs. didn't work.
as for props... the engines came with 21 inch props but at WOT it went to 6100 RPM about 300 RPM above the engine rating, so i switched to to 23 inch props and the RPM settled at around 5800 RPM. |

You may need to try some props designed not to carry the bow, but to add some sternlift.
|
Thnx Sydwayz for your input. will try on different props.
|
I'm currently using Laser II props which after a little research, is best for 15-18 bass boats with outboards up to 200HP. So thanks Sydways, i'm going try the Mirage Plus props, hopefully it will be a better fit.

Hey did the prop swap work? I have a 25 action marine with twin 225efi running the same laser 23 pitch props. My boat has the same handling characteristics as what you have described. What did you try that had the best results. I have purchased an external steering system for it, but would rather know which prop would be best

I have a pair of 22" 4 Blade Herrings that might help, they do lift the stern, send me a PM if interested.
